Low hassle way to get rid of car

I want to get rid of a 2007 Fiat Punto. Only 124,000km. Driving fine but tax NCT and insurance are out of date. NCT easily passed previously. Also needs a good valet and it's missing a wing mirror cover. I don't want to go through the hassle of getting it taxed and insured so I can bring it to the NCT centre and get it valeted.

What's a low hassle way of getting it sold? I assume that with no tax or NCT (both expired in October) then I can't let anyone take it for a test drive?

Nobody will touch it without a recent NCT.

Get a wing mirror cover from a breakers or motor factors.

Advertise the car in the usual places and be realistic with your price. A valid NCT will make the car much more attractive.

I scrapped a old Corsa with a breaker years ago and got an end of life certificate to prove it, hassle free but the breaker only gave me 50 euro for the car.

How much are you expecting to get for it?

TBH there is no low hassle way to sell a car like that unless it's to someone you know.

If you advertise it you can expect the usual pests.

If the fail sheet looks reasonable someone will take it. Cars are not getting cheaper these days.

Car didn't fail NCT by the way, it is just out of date since October. It always passed the first time, the only thing borderline was the handbrake.

Ideally, I'd be looking for someone to take it off me for about €500, get it NCT'd, Valet it, get a new wing mirror cover and then sell it on for €2k or so. I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle of figuring all that out and getting it taxed + insured to take it to the NCT centre. And dealing with the usual messers calling around to the house.

Who was looking after the car for you?

I'm thinking if it was an independent mechanic they might know someone who is looking for a cheap car.

You could also take a couple of pics and put it up here for free.

Give it to the fire brigade for training, contact them and they’ll collect

I’ve a Yaris that was tested last November 12 months, I only drove for a month after and parked it up. I put it back on the road this year and it failed on multiple items. I did a lot of the work myself using secondhand parts and got the local mechanic as well. It cost €220 for a 00 Yaris if I had to use new parts and a mechanic for all the work it would’ve cost more than the price of another Yaris with full nct. Just because it passed last year won’t guarantee it will pass this year.
