Discovery 4 - Hard to find a non commercial

On the look out for a 2012 - 2014 Discovery 4 as a family car. They tick all the boxes in terms of space, boot size and practicality. but I'm struggling to find "private" versions of the Discovery on donedeal. Almost all have been converted to 5 seater crew cabs and are on the 333 road tax now.

I'm a PAYE employee with no registered business, the 333 tax band is not applicable to me. I'm happy to pay the 1200 tax rate if I can find one but it's proving very difficult.

What are my options here? Are all commercially registered vehicles out the question here or can they be very easily taxed at a private rate? If i need to go get engineers report and pay and claim VAT etc it's not something I want to do but if it's just a case of paying the private rate and getting a NCT I'd be happt to do that as it's slim pickings on a good one.

I was looking for an LR4 as well, of the 5 seater/non commercial options, I found it hard to get HSE spec. Next step will be to look in the UK but VRT etc. might make it unfeasible. The 7 seat options are like hens teeth. Commercial ones have had high mileage is what I found as well.

UK import wouldn't make sense , is it not only the SDV6 that is €1200 road tax ?

Paddy Connolly 4x4 is not the cheapest around but seems to have a good reputation , he crew cabs alot of vehicles but if you rang him maybe he could source a vehicle in the trade that had not been crew cabbed and would be willing to sell as that . Non crew cabbed vehicles are possibly being sold in trade and then converted .

Have you looked up north ? Less duty than mainland UK . I know Robinsons of Hillsborough have a discovery 4 for sale

Just spotted the one in Robinsons is on English plates , think they have had it a while maybe someone has been using it up north and it was registered up north before Jan ' 22 . Worth asking them

Spirit Burton in wicklow often have excellent used SUV,s ,in fact it's mainly what they do

    I'd recommend them

Haven't seen many discovery 4 at Spirit Burton while Paddy Connolly have the biggest amount . It's just they are all crew cab but as said he might be able to get you one not converted yet

I’d imagine the NoX charge on them would be pretty sore?

It's very easy to tax a 'commercial' vehicle as a private vehicle. Just bring the documents in the Co co offices and they sort it out there at the counter. I've been driving vans as private vehicles for years.

Because mine are actual vans I still have to pay commercial rates at tolls and I have to do the CVRT instead of the NCT. Not sure how that would work with a Discovery.
