Perish the thought but it’s coming to a UK retailer sooner than we might wish and most of us will likely handle such loose change over the coming years.

What might be a good alternative image on the STG notes and coins?

    A few votes from me:

    Kate Bush

    Annie Lennox

    Billy Connolly

    Bagpuss

And yes I have just realised the title of this thread is disgusting 😝

Why not your own image, Plenty? Modesty forbids you from advancing the suggestion yourself but, be honest, isn't that what you were angling for by opening the thread?

Someone is moving the pawns around the board. This should be on the conspiracy theory page but I think.

What if the Queen wants a much smaller Royal family. All the Grand children get thrown out of the Royal apartments. The Duke of Yorks family get reduced in stature. Harry and the Hollywood harlot are already disposed of, not that the cavalry captains half witted son was going to progress. Strangely enough Edwards daughter seems to be in favour ahead of Zara Philips.

The Queen maybe on her way out but she is cleaning house before she goes. Philip would be a really petty tyrant if he ever came to sit on the throne. Better restart with William, much slimmer cast for the future.

We already have coins with a woman's head on it who gave an award to the battalion leader in the Bloody sunday massacre.

I haven't even been following the Prince Andrew saga. I do hate him simply for being rich and a British unionist but is what he did any different to what every other leader or king has done in human history? For goodness sake I bet those Roman and Egyptian princes/kings were sleeping with 14 year olds. I think the Prince Andrew girl was 17 or so, it was inappropriate but it is hardly paedophilia.

Interesting fact: Traditionally, the portrait of each successive monarch on the British coins faces the opposite direction to that of the previous monarch.

George VI looked to the left:

Elisabeth II looks to the right:

The exception to this was Edward VIII, who should have faced right (because George V faced left), but he preferred himself looking to the left, so his proposed coins have him facing that way. However, since his reign only lasted 326 days, the coins never actually got produced and put into circulation. So when George VI took over, he went to the left too, as if Edward had gone to the right. So three monarchs in succession ended up with coins of them facing left.

Assuming the tradition isn't broken again, Charles III (or whatever he decides to call himself) will be facing left.

Big question is- will he have a Spaniel named after him? 😁

I'd assume there is a die made and ready to go to get the coins out before the Daily Mail start flogging their own "commerative coins proudly produced in the UK" (actually in China)

He won’t be King Charles III, if anyone is thinking along those lines. That would be controversial, inviting comparisons with Charles I And Charles II. The former’s religious policies were a major cause of the English Civil war, which he lost, costing Charles his head. So even though his son Charles II eventually restored the monarchy, the name is considered unlucky. Prince Charles is likely to rule as King George VII, in honour of his grandfather and great-grandfather.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Charles Philip Arthur George might also become King George VII or King Philip like his da wasn't.

Or King Arthur but that's a hard act to follow

Or King Louis after his uncle.

This will be the first duo King and Queen for a long time. Might they have both heads on the one coin?

Since 1952. The big announcement about Camilla getting the title is a pile of nothing, she was getting it anyway.

All wives of Kings are Queen. The other way around doesn't happen.

Charles Philip Arthur George would be C.R.A.G I or Arthur I or Philip II (maybe as the actual Philip II was more of king consort, ruling jure uxoris and did counsel Mary via his chaplain towards a less fiery religious policy). George it likely will be, as dull options are preferred, even tho. for an Anglican bl. Charles I was a martyr for episcopacy, altho Queen Vic removed his service from the main calendar. Coin artists would have no problems whether they go a realistic path (since Nero depicted himself honestly as an overweight neckbeard) or a classical style, which the pre-decimal coins followed.
