Why are the authorities not taking foreign convicted criminals who have no legal right to live in this country to the airport for deportation instead of asking them to "self-deport"?

Yes, that's the point. It's not easy to find. It it were you'd have loads of examples in a simple search.
Instead when you google for "Gardai" and "white male", you basically get hundreds of results about the same two stories.
