Hi guys. I am looking for a CD transport to pair with my Auralic Taurus Mk2 amp and Pro-Ject Audio DAC Box RS.

My DAC and Amp combo are very clean, detailed and smooth sounding.

I know Pro-Ject do a CD transport which would match my DAC but rather pricey so was looking at the Cambridge Audio CXC, Audiolab CDT6000, Leak Audio CDT or the Roksan Attessa. I’m having a hard time finding out the differences between them in terms of sound quality and sound characteristics due to little coverage online about them.

would you by any chance be able to advise on this and what may match nicely with my existing setup ?

Any other CD transport recommendations ?

    thanks in advance

    Hey GeneticDevaint.

    Thanks for the post.

I'm not familiar with the Auralic Taurus unfortunately.

Out of the Transports listed the most popular are the CXC or the CDT6000.

The CXC was awarded 5 stars in What HiFi and without spending a fortune is the Transport to go for.

We haven't had the Attessa in as of yet so haven't heard it in action.

There is also the Marantz CD6007 which was product of the year for under £500 coning in at 449 Euro. (CD Player).

    Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks. How do the Cambridge audio , audiolab and marantz differ in sound characteristics ?

    Hey GeneticDeviant.

A lot of that will have to do with your amp and speakers as the CD transport is just a transport with no DACS etc built in. The internal components will also contribute a little.

Form listening to these cd players through many types of amps the built quality of the Marantz would be the best followed by the CXC and then the CDT6000. All of them are fantastic CD players in the below £500 price bracket.

To be honest it is hard to hear a different between the CXC, CDT6000 when connected to the same amp. The CD6007 when connected sounds slightly louder and a little more refined due to its on board DAC.

Hi thanks Kenny. I have a really top of the line DAC already. I plan to use it with the CD transport. The Marantz therefore with its own DAC will be unnecessary hence the need for a transport and not a CD player. I’ll get greater performance by using my seperate amp , DAC and a specialised CD transport. So looks like it’ll be a choice between the Cambridge audio and the audiolab from what you are advising.

any thoughts on the Leak audio CDT ?

    Hi GeneticDeviant.

The Leak is also a great Transport it pairs better with the Leak amp than it does with other branded amps.

I still fell the CXC and CDT6000 are the ones to go for. Pushing more towards the CXC based on its reviews and its popularity.
