Selling a 172 Merc e220 Premium privately?

I have a 172 e220 Premium estate, full dealer history from new, 49k Km. Quite high spec, as comes with the Premium model. I am the 2nd owner, having bought it 18 months old. Imported from the UK via main dealer (couldn't get a Premium in Ireland in stock, it was ordered specially).

Am I p1ssing into the wind trying to sell this privately? I will be changing to the exact same car but 2020, so wondering whether to bite the bullet and trade in (and take an even higher hit), or to chance a DoneDeal job. My guess is at the price range, no one would buy privately, but interested in others thoughts.

For me to buy you car privately I would want it to be significantly cheaper than buying of a dealer as I have no comeback. Its all down to price, if its cheap relative to a dealer it will sell, thats the tricky part, what will you price it at?

Cars like that are in very short supply at the minute due to Brexit. Motor traders and dealers are now sourcing stock from private buyers on the likes of donedeal so I'd advertise it there. The smaller traders may offer you more for it than the larger multi brand showroom dealers who churn out 100s of cars a day.

You could go onto the likes of Zucar and Joe Duffy and upload photos and details of the car where they will give you a valuation to buy it from you. Those prices will give you a fair indication of what sort of trade value it has and give you an indication as to what sort of worst case price to take for it.

    Brilliant, didn't realise that.

I have emailed the local dealer who I purchased from for both a straight-sale price for the 2020 replacement and also 'cost to change' if I trade in.

A fool and their money, eh??

If the price is right it will sell. Advertise it a couple of grand less than dealers and go from there

Go to a main mercedes dealer and see what they'll offer.

Price it well and it will sell quickly enough.

It’s appears to be a bit different this year. Dealers will give u a good trade price as they have no stock. As for buying your car there may not be much of a discount on a straight deal this year for the same reason. I’m looking at new e class and no discount for a straight buy.
