Me, just over the 200 km/h mark in a BMW 5 series. There was more in her but I was scared shitless to push it more.

I was once a passenger in a micra doing a hundred , I was pretty scared as the drivers nickname was " Kurt cobain " , never saw him play guitar or sing either

    155mph

Was the limiter on a 330d

    About 250kph

Working on a closed motorway one night. It got up to it surprisingly quickly

200 kmph on autobahn. Once in a Seat Leon FR towards Stuttgart but it felt very light on the front at 200 and I wasn’t happy at all about that speed. Backed off quickly after that. Second time in a Audi A6 avant (current version) outside Frankfurt. Very settled and comfortable at 200. Could have pushed on but decided to back off. Was still getting overtaken on the 5 lane section approaching the airport at that speed.

200 kph, briefly, in a rental BMW on a German autobahn.

160 kph solidly for 30 mins on the same road.

220 KMH in a 1.6 ltr petrol avensis for about 15 mins of driving.

I had to laugh at someone saying 160 there, thats my normal speed in a 1.6 diesel.

Just on autobahn driving. The observation skills of the average German driver on the autobahn is vastly better than anything here. It is obviously their training. Even at high speeds I rarely found myself worrying about someone randomly coming into the lane. Lane discipline is excellent almost everywhere except approaching large cities like Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Roadworks drop speeds to 80 kmph and they do 80 all the way through them, not 70, not 90, bang on 80. Makes for a very smooth flow even though the lanes for roadworks get very tight for width at times.

edit m5 driver … respect for that too 😂👍

anyone with a 1000cc bike will have done that too 😎

305 km/h on a heavily modified Honda CBR 1000. Friend hit 315 km/h on the same bike on the same day.

275 km/h measured over 3 km using the Autobahn Km marker posts in a car. That was early 90's. I was a passenger in a car that hit 285 km/h.

Also a passenger in a Canadian spec NSX that maxed out on the Autobahn. No idea how fast that was.

100mph. I know, you're all laughing now 🐌. Thinking about it now, that's 160kmh, a speed I would never consider doing. Although I accidently hit 140 in an E-Class, and only realised it when I looked at the speedo.

Now, bear in mind, the 100mph was in a Cortina Mk3 1300 cc, so a car that wasn't built for it (and that was VERY obvious), but I was going down a very long and wide hill somewhere outside Castleisland, if memory serves. It was in 1977, so can't say how prevalent radar was then. It was time to throw out the anchors when I saw two road signs in the near distance : Narrow Road, and Bends Ahead (obviously they were graphics but can't show them here). As soon as I got the car down to 60mph, I swore I'd never do that again.

have been a passenger at i think 260km/h in an A5 quattro on the autobahn in germany. i was paying more attention to the road than to the speedo.

We used to talk about "doing the tonne" when I started driving. Only around 2000 mind, but we talked about mph

Would have done 110 a few times in a tiny starlet. Awful when I think of it...

Working so hard to pass people out too.

From what I can see the boy racer culture is a lot less now at least

I've had a GPS 250kph in a lightly modified RX8 one night in Mexico. Felt very stable, brakes were still effective. The only real concern was something else crossing into my path.

Funny you say this, I've been able to take my Mini 1275GT to Mondello and down the main straight can get past 100mph quite easily (it's a modified rally engine). But you 10000% feel like that car may disintegrate at some stage. Doesn't help the car is 42 years old but that's part of the fun!

Max speed on various bikes - not all that interesting to be honest. The fun is the non straight bits and the bursts of acceleration between them

Not the fastest but relatively recent & GPS speed recorded on dashcam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭manonboard

    160km/h down the M1.

I look back now and i think what a fecking idiot i was. Absolutely no need, and was clearly not skilled or in a car equipped for such wrecklessness. Just a young idiot. Grateful i didnt make a mistake that could of been fatal.

215 kph taking my heavily pregnant wife who was bleeding heavily into hospital at 8am of a Monday morning, it all worked out thankfully. We hadn't time to wait on an ambulance or to call the guards for an escort. Hazards on and flashed the lights the whole way in. I think most motorists sensed it was an emergency as all got out of my way, I somehow managed to get around Bandon road roundabout and up through Wilton to the hospital without stopping.

Nobody drives like I did that morning on the commute into work!

282kph on the A11 between Berlin and Gross Doln in an Audi S8. Man i miss working for Audi 😜

There was still plenty left in her too. Traffic conspired against me.

Somewhere around 230 kmh.. in the Phoenix Park*

*in a single seater race car during the races, on the approach to the final corner, a reasonably fast right hander.

Me and my two brothers used to have a competition coming down that hill about who could get the fastest in our company Hiace.

My brother got 105 mph fully laden.

88 mph then she just took off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,749 ✭✭✭Deagol

hhhhhhh.....I call bs......those things are limited to 155mph...... I know because I raced one on a ZZR1100 that I was doing indicated 286kmh (176mph) on, the second day the M6 between Athenry and Ballinasloe was opened. Was fair scarey... but I met the BM driver later by weird chance and I asked why he stopped going for it and he told me about the limiter on all of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭Killinator

250km/h in Golf R then backed out while it was still on the up.

Regularly get to hit 200km/h as part of the job, but it's a different kettle of fish when that's in reasonable traffic!

Sweet jaysus, I did 70 in a company Hiace when I was 20 an 'invulnerable' and it frightened the crap out of me. The thing felt like it would lift off / roll over / explode at 70mph.... 105mph.... I'll have nightmares.

Back in my student days we had a race down the M5/M6 back from Alton Towers. Think the Renault Clio I had at the time was only 1.1 or 1.2 so the circa 95MPH (153KPH) I was doing almost the whole way was seriously drinking up petrol..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 973 ✭✭✭Burt Renaults

Oddly, the fastest I ever drove was in a Yaris hybrid. I wouldn't ordinarily drive stupidly fast, but it was 5am on an empty motorway... and it was a hire car. Around 180km/h, according to the speedometer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭squeekyduck

Limited from factory, but if you know how to remove the limiter it will do more!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,719 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

About 260 km/h in a Carrera 2 on an unopened bit of motorway.

I've been a passenger in an RS6 on an Autobahn at around 290. Felt disappointingly not that fast.

Did 36 kmh once. I was bricking it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭mikeecho

    155mph .. damn you limiters.

This happens more than you'd expect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭XsApollo

    I think around a 170-180 Mph on a Yamaha R1 on the M7.

30 mph in a FIAT Bambino.
