Whats he playing on? the most reliable way would be to get him a digital key for it, so he can just download and play once its released. He might even be able to download it ahead of time depending on his platform.

Yeah, Id say your best bet is likely smyths, unless you wanted to just gift them Playstation store credit, Sony don't seem to have a 'buy as gift' option.
