that's the one...mine is 48-36=12. Apparently it leaves you with at most 104 possible combinations, or something like that

I start with 3 single digits with a plus and minus summing to 2 digits. Places the equals and covers 2 signs and gives their positions.

that's a good one.

I think the two ways to go at it are try to get (or rule out) more numbers or get more operators in the first guess. Since there are fewer operators than numbers and they are more restricted in where they can be placed, I try to narrow down the numbers.
