And I thought you were going to declare for DCM 2023

That's obviously the plan :-) On current progress, it would only take me about a month to complete it 🙄

I haven't updated here in ages! Below is a summary for November. Generally was a positive month with 12 runs and two decent park runs. 72kms in the month which I think is the most I've done all year too. Feel like I'm getting a bit more comfortable at 5:00 - 5:15 pace per km. It's still too fast for my current level of fitness but I seem to enjoy running at that pace and that's really what this is about - enjoyment :-)

    1 Nov - 7.9k @ 5:05 pace

    4 Nov - 5.9k @ 5:10 pace

    7 Nov - 6.8k @ 5:12 pace

    9 Nov - 5.9k @ 5:11 pace

    12 Nov - 7.5k incl PR (Poolbeg) in 21:03

    15 Nov - 4.4k @ 5:24 pace

    19 Nov - 4.8k @ 5:13 pace

    21 Nov - 7.0k @ 5:13 pace

    23 Nov - 5.1k @ 5:09 pace

    26 Nov - 7.5k incl PR (Poolbeg) in 21:01

    28 Nov - 4.4k @ 5:14 pace

    30 Nov - 4.8k @ 5:11 pace

11 runs in December and about 66k covered. I think that's my second most consistent month (after November) so I'm happy overall to end the year well although I could be doing more on the S&C side. Only one parkrun effort and although I was hoping to break 21 mins, I can't be too disappointed with 21:15 given it was Christmas eve morning!

    2 Dec - 4.4k @ 5:17 pace

    5 Dec - 8.3k @ 5:03 pace

    7 Dec - 4.4k @ 4:58 pace

    10 Dec - 6.7k @ 4:59 pace

    13 Dec - 6.7k @ 5:16 pace

    17 Dec - about 5k with a watch malfunction

    19 Dec - 4.4k @ 5:18 pace

    21 Dec - 5.4k @ 5:09 pace

    24 Dec - 7k incl PR (Claremorris) in 21:15

    27 Dec - 8.4k @ 5:14 pace

    30 Dec - 5.7k @ 5:16 pace

A note for the end of year - my logging has been very sporadic and short lately!

I make it about 615kms in 2022. Now that's not much at all compared to some around here but given where I was at the start of the year, I'm very pleased. My hope in January was that my body (and more to the point, one particular injury) could cope with two runs a week. In general, I think apart from during the month of July, I mainly managed between 8-12 runs per month. So I think I achieved my aim. I've had to remind myself several times during the year that what is really important (the main aim) is getting out and enjoying the runs. Of course, the fitter one is, the more one gets to enjoy them. But I'm getting there.

Where I probably let myself down in terms of activity during 2022 was on the S&C side. So that's a real focus coming into 2023. With limited runs, I need to get better at the other stuff if I want to improve and enjoy those runs more. That includes diet which generally has been good but can be better. My weight was down to 12 st 10 on Christmas eve (I'm afraid to weight myself after the last week!) and I know I could get that down to 12 7 with a bit more consistency and without huge effort.

I foolishly thought at the start of the year that a sub 20 min 5k was achievable if I got some consistent runs done. 20:40 was as good as it got and I only managed to break 21 mins on a few occasions. A big reminder that I'm not 30 anymore :0. Still, sub 20 is a nice round target so if I meet all other aims, I want to be close to it by the end of 2023

Aims for 2023 are 120 runs (10 runs a month) including a few more sessions (and call it 750kms in total), at least 15 mins of quality S&C everyday, weight down to 12 7 and smashing though 20 mins for 5k. Lets see how it goes.....
