Any recommendations on places to stay, thoughts on what to do.

e.g. Do you recommend hiring a car (expensive) or using the local buses? Any suggestions for eateries or food trucks etc.

Any out of the way sights that you recommend?

a lot will depend on age and interests. It seems to have something for everyone. But choose wisely as they say to Indiana.

Stayed a few times in Bougainvillea hotel on maxwell beach. Lovely beach. Very chilled. We did not have a car but travelled around on the local buses. Oistins for the fish fry on a Friday night is good fun. Feels reasonably safe. People are very friendly. I was only there 2/3 nights before joining a small ship cruise and thoroughly enjoyed.

For a two week break I would probably look at somewhere within walking distance of restaurants. People seem to enjoy the rum distillery tours, boats tours to swim with turtles.

the forums on TripAdvisor are still good.
