Hi all, The AutoSave Draft feature is now disabled across the site. The decision to disable the feature was made via a poll last year. The delay in putting it in place was due to a bug/update issue. This should serve as a reminder to manually save your drafts if you wish to keep them. Thanks, The Boards Team.

Whats to say that's the best they could get?

Maybe channel 4 seen the ratings from last year and went naw not for us, We can get better viewing figures with a rerun of grand designs.

Its the same with every new race series, They give it away for free for the first year get on the public broadcasters promising great viewing figures and then in a years time the BBCs, Virgins & ITV drop them. Motorsport only gets good viewing figures on one race series which is F1 the rest is tiny compared!

Thats conplete pie in the sky stuff, it had 0 chance then too... why on earth would the DTM would come to Ireland? Pretty sure Mondellos FIA grade 4 wouldn't even allow the class one cars to race anyway.

Chadwick was a bit off the boil yesterday and only posted P5 in qualy for today's race. Visser had a great qualifying session putting herself in P2 for the start. Powell took pole by smashing a great lap at the end of qualy. It'll be an in interesting watch to see how Jamie copes starting a little back than used to, especially if it's a wet session. Race start at 13:40 Irish time.

Yes and it is live on Sky Showcase :)

Pure fluck that I noticed that today by the way was looking for F1 qualifying on it.

I think Jamie will do well she is well able to pass but I would like to see Alice Powell win the race.

Delighted to see Alice Win. Jamie done good too. Not a bad race. I agree there was absolutely no need to be starting behind the safety car just silly.

Alice held her position well. Not a bad race. Jamie needs a race seat in F2 to showcase her talent. She's streets ahead and keeps showing that every race weekend.

Nobody said anything on this thread throughout Spain, UK and France. Thought everyone gave up on it once Chadwick kept dominating.

Japan has been cancelled, replaced by Singapore.

I hear you. If Chadwick put it on pole yesterday, you can be sure I wouldn't have posted 😜

Maybe that was because we could not watch it live.

I enjoyed the UK race but Chadwick does run away with it most of the time. Today's race was ok but mostly helped by Chadwick being out of position. Was impressed that the damaged car made it around a few corners with the rear wheel hanging off

In a kind of way, Alice Powell is our representative on W Series. The fin on the back of her helmet is a blend in of the Irish Tricolour into the Union Jack because her grandfather is from Limerick and she keeps very strong ties to the area.

The AA did a podcast episode a few months back on the topic of females in motorsport, W Series was touched on and they also talked to an Irish racer called Nicole Drought. Worth a listen if you are interested in the topic.

That would be an utter shame. So much hard work put into the series.

    Rest of wseries Season cancelled

Well that sucks, pity not to finish the season, it does say they are sacrificing the last 3 races to save costs towards next season so hopefully will be back, it would be bad way to end the series

What a difficult way to end the season. I suppose it is necessary to concentrate on ensuring that the series continues. F1 seriously need to support it though.

Need I say, that it may not have helped sourcing funding by sticking the series behind a paywall.

I have been following the series but really have failed to see some serious efforts to ensure drivers can step up into F3. I know there's been a few tests, but nothing has properly materialised after 3 years.

Think they should have the series in Europe solely to cut down travel costs.

Imola, Barcelona, monaco, Red bull ring, silverstone, Hungaroring, spa, monza

    Maybe a few double headers

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,720 ✭✭✭ PsychoPete

Doesn't come as a surprise, there probably just isn't the interest in it. I've seen a few races and found it fairly poor being honest

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,458 ✭✭✭✭ flazio

It's got the conversation going in the right direction but clearly there's still a long way to go when you consider that this line up of drivers is still higher up in the hierarchy then the ladies. (PS 16 year old Offaly lad Alex Dunne is the champion of this series)

How is it the women aren't even getting seats at this level?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,462 ✭✭✭ Charlie-Bravo

I heard one comment that if you took one male driver and one female driver and went seeking sponsorship, and where the sponsor could chose one driver, they would go for the male talent. That mindset needs to change, but it will take a very long time. To speed things up, a women's race category is needed, with a guaranteed promotion to an F3 race seat for the top three female drivers.

Awe that is such a pity that it has to end like this. I agree sticking it behind a pay wall was just stupid and certainly woukd not have helped in promoting the series. I think it could be very successful if just promoted right. Promote it in Men's and Womens magazines get sponsorship from large make-up companies like Rimmel, Maybelline , Max Factor and L'Oréal etc after all its about trying to get young girls and Women into racing and motersports.

Lewis Hamilton was critical of F1 for not doing more to help W Series keep going, however it now appears that F1 are thinking about launching their own female only series aimed at younger up and comers.

    F1W maybe or F1-W.

Should be interesting to see if anything comes of it.
