Recommended earphones for running

Can someone please recommend earphones for running that won't fall out and have decent sound.

I use the Jabra Elite Active 75t and find them great, don't slip out, fully waterproof, good sound quality and they charge in the small carry case without being plugged in.

Usually around €150-170 but currently in Harvey Norman for €109.

Bluetooth connection can be picky as to where you keep your phone (the right earbud has the Bluetooth receiver) so you want your phone either in front of you or on your right side (i.e. so not passing through your body to earpiece). Not all the time but reports of this being a common enough issue.

I got a cheap pair of Bluetooth earbuds on Amazon UK for about 15 quid in a sale.

They are absolutely fine for music and calls. No longer available. I'm surprised how good they are. Fit is great too, with 3 sizes of ear plugs provided. Charging case

But, my point is that you don't need to spend a fortune.

Why am I on a third pair if they're so great?

Well, I bought my first pair in 2016, and they worked fantastically, but in November 2018 I ran a 10km race in one of the heaviest downpours I've experienced. The water damage was too much.

Bought my second pair to replace them in Jan 2019. Over the last 2 months, the material on one of the ear cups ripped, not sure who was responsible, but got close to 3 years out of them.

Just got my third pair last week.

Now the caveat. You can only buy them direct, and you get changed an import tax if you order them to Ireland. I was lucky, a colleague was in the States recently, so I got them delivered to her accommodation, and she brought them home to me.

Either way, they're still my favorite make, and would recommend them to anyone asking

I second this. I have just started listening to music again while running after about 10 years running in silence.

The first day I went with music again I used a pair of noise-cancelling earbuds, I nearly got hit by a car a couple of times!

I wanted a pair that would give good sound quality while still affording peripheral hearing. These things do just that, their waterproof and the Bluetooth connection is much more solid than most.

Im not one for spending loads on earphones be it for running or otherwise but ive a pair of these, im sure they were recommended on here somewhere

I second the jabras;

I have a pair of Jabra 75t active; they are water resistant and have a hear through option which can amplify your surroundings if you are running in an urban area and need to hear for traffic. They're also very small and snuggly fit in your ear. You can shake your head side to side and they won't budge.

I think they're pretty neat myself but will say the Bluetooth can be shaky sometimes. Although this is not that often.

I think earphones that cover the ear completely and obscure the outside noise are a bit dangerous, we should always be aware of our surroundings when out and about

Also, I use one of these to listen to music, saves bringing a phone. I did have a Garmin 645 Music but the battery is shocking so moved to a COROS Pace 2 instead

+1 to these. I use them for running and cycling. I can hear what's going on around me at all times whilst listening to music/podcasts. Very happy with the Aeropex model.

the ones you put in your ear constantly fall out for me but these haven't let me down, they're overear and very light, mightn't be for everyone but 100s of KMs later they're still doing a great job

agree too. I have them as well and great for peripheral hearing. The sound is absolutely reasonable considering you are also listening to what is around you. They also come with a 2 year guarantee, I stepped on mine and they replaced them for free, no questions asked.

We spend in and around €150ish on runners every 3/4 months depending on the mileage we do and then either dump them or give them to a charity (I recommend this). I too would have spent small money on amazon for cheap and cheerful earphones and like my runners replaced them every few months after they failed. I had a road to Damascus revelation when I decided I should get premium earphones, that would connect to my phone and garmin watch with out having to delete and reconnect every shagging time I turned them on.

I tried the jabra's and they are great but I just didn't trust them to stay in, plus they kept disconnecting from my watch. I eventually bought a pair of powerbeats and they are brilliant, 15hrs from full, great sound on music and phone calls. I would have like a pair of shokz as they are known now, but I run in urban areas where road noise would be too loud.

Spend proper money and buy a decent pair of earphones.

Have a pair of these for a couple of years now. Countless 20 milers in every sort of weather conditions and they've never let me down. Excellent sound quality, battery life and connectivity. Like a lot of Anker products, you generally get great bang for your buck. €55 is as good value as you'll find.

I'll third them, I find it really hard to get in ears to fit properly and these have served me well over the last 2 years.

Aftershockz aeropex are the best pair I've owned. They fit really well an sit outside the ear so you can hear your surroundings. Sound quality is very good too .

I use Jaybird Vista 1's and find them incredibly comfortable. It was between these and the Jabra Elite's but the Jaybirds seem to be more waterproof.

The only problem is they disconnect from my Fenix 6x, but that's a garmin bluetooth issue and not Jaybird. It's an issue with almost all bluetooth earphones with the Garmins.

I got the aftershokz and they are the best.

I was given the jabras listed above for work and they fall out of my ears even on turbo going nowhere. I'm female so that may be the reason, even with smallest "bud" this was happening.

The aftershokz are great for running while hearing your surroundings and also have good sound. You can use them with earplugs to cancel other noises if you wish.

I use the Samsung Buds Plus - absolutely amazing sound but need to be careful not to listen too loud

I had Tinnitus for a few days after doing that.

None that I've ever seen any reports on. Have been using Aftershokz for many years myself, but the technology/idea itself is quite old and been in use for decades I belive, just not in consumer products until more recently.

Honestly, id be more concerned about the effects of the ones that sit in your ears rather than the bone technology ones

If you buy the aftershockz aeropex they wont fall off. I cant comment on any other brands.

My friend has used Shokz and they tend to come off during exercise and do not allow for both Bluetooth and MP3 modes. I recently went on a ride and needed a headset that had both Bluetooth and MP3 modes and I found that Naenka's Runner Pro and Runner Diver both had them. 😀I'm going to purchase one to try them out and really looking forward to receiving them!
