Does anyone have advise on the type of insulation to use where there is a tiled suspended ceiling. The ceiling tiles and lights need to be replaced and looking to put insulation... Rockwool seems to be an option ...

Any advise appreciated...

What's above the ceiling tiles, is it concrete or joists, what kind of access is available

With the limited info provided, a suspended ceiling suggests it may be a commercial space, therefore mineral wool ie ‘rock wool’ or equal type product that is fire resistant/retardant, should be used.

Bryan, The reason i bump thread is there is a problem as each time i create a thread it does not show in "my threads" when i refresh it shows... why is this...

Topic... This is void of nearly a metre above the celing... the structure ceiling is industrial standard concrete slab... The lights are 1200x600mm (4x2ft) and need to be replaced... we are hoping the light space be big enough for access as it is just the tiles need to be replaced...

Definitely only use mineral wool (products such as ‘rock wool’) or equal. Do not use anything with the word ‘poly’ in n it. Be careful to only use insulation that is fire retardant.

I don't think you've given nearly enough information for somebody to answer.

Type of building.

What is above, external space or another unit. If external, is the roof insulated?

Purpose of insulation, etc. I would expect commercial ceilings more often to be acoustic rather than thermal etc

Depending on what is the primary or dominant mechanism of heat loss of the heated space, you may be underwhelmed at the result of what you propose.

It's really not that simple. You are insulating the ceiling when it might not even be the ceiling losing heat.

A few rolls of rockwoll is a cheap addition. But make cheap changes, expect cheap results. But not sure why you are asking for advice when you know it all already.

I am not insulting, it's just a quib.... l know where the heat is going to the reason I know fix option is I talked to installer the other day. Actually he mentioned rockwoll as option which I thought be unsuitable...

The reason you got more questions was due to the lack of information. You mentioned a ceiling in a commercial space. Without even mentioned if it was acoustic ir thermal insulation you were asking about.

FWIW, I mainly work in the commercial building design. Acoustic is way way more common than thermal - so the questions where in regards as to whether you were looking at the right insulation, in the right place.

seems like a silly question but since you ask principally to retain heat... it may also help with acoustics i don't know... there is a void of about a metre...

There are also loads of walls which extend beyond the suspended ceiling, which will reduce the impact of quilt insulation there.

You should not be insulating the suspended ceiling as previously advised to you.

The thermal layer is in the ceiling above it. You’ll have holes and penetrations in the suspended ceiling for detectors, light fixtures etc.
