Pain 2 months after wisdom tooth extraction

I had my lower left wisdom tooth extracted back in early November. Initially, every seemed to be healing fine, then about 2 - 3 weeks after the extraction, I started experiencing a horrible dull aching pain around that area about 3 - 4 times a day that would last over an hour on some occasions. I went back to the dentist and they said everything looked fine from a dental stand point. They even took additional x-rays, etc. The dentist suggested re-doing the filling in the tooth next to where the wisdom tooth was extracted and that just made things much worse. The pain has now spread to my jaw, which hurts to touch, shave, etc. I get sensitivity / pain in all the lower teeth on my left side when I talk, I can't sleep on my left side without experiencing pain, brushing on that side hurts. On occasion, I get a burning sensation in my chin and a tingling sensation on the entire left side of my face. I still get the dull aching pain from time to time, but not as often as before.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?
