Are there any online Safe Pass courses or are they all in person day long courses?

Read that and thought . . . now that's a good idea! so I looked it up on the Internet and see that all the conventional courses are currently cancelled cause of Covid but this crowd do seem to offer online, virtual safe pass courses.

Spoke with Solas today. Renewal of safepass courses are going online. 45m of questions.

it Sounds brilliant. Compared to a whole day lost.

And those lost days could be so long and boring. I'd nearly taken to propping my eyes open with matchsticks by the end.

The only bit of craic that might've come about was when one of the class attendees pulls the 'expert safety tutor' up on something that descends into a bit of an argument. And then there was those cringeworthy tests to make sure we were paying attention.

Won't miss those safepass days at all.

Don't be fooled. Just did the online. 45 mins to get thru 50 long wordy questions, some long wordy answers too. Need to get 45 out of 50. No time to go back to review any marked. Printed off the study docs and answers and spent a couple of hours or more going thru them, failed by 3. 7 did the test. 1 passed, one walked out after 20 mins as the course monitor said he had no clue how the system worked "sure its only new". Rest failed. At least with the days face to face course you are sure to pass. Wasted half a day today going in, not to mention 98 quid.

Pass rate too high and time too short

Could you post-up a couple of pics of the documents you printed off with the questions, to give us an idea of what to expect? Cheers.

    Joke of a course.

Sat and failed course today. Got 44 questions correct, failed by 1.

No indication prior to signing out that 6 questions were incorrect, and more to the point which questions.

Spoke to safety officer we use for company, he heard the 50 questions are drawn randomly from a pot of 500 possible questions. Allowing for 5 incorrect questions means 90PC success rate, big difference from 14 out of 20 as before.

Approx 35 questions straight forward enough, 10 / 15 questions were set by a solicitor as opposed to a health and safety officer etc etc.

45 minutes tight but manageable, main problem is no indication whatsoever that your outside the required range of 45 correct.

Older lads will struggle with computer format for sure. Waste of 2 plus hours and 98 euro.

It says on the Safe Pass renewal page,

The Revision Material tab contains the Official Questions and Answers Booklet and a range of revision material for you to study.

Does this official Questions and Answers booklet contain all 500 possible questions?

Edit: To answer my own question,

Candidates have access to the official questions and answers booklet containing the full 500 questions and answers for the test in order to prepare for the test. This is available to download on the revision tab in their SOLAS online account and it is strongly advised that candidates study the questions to ensure they can pass the test.

Did the online version just there today. Passed no problem. If you run through the revision material quickly, do a few of the mock tests and learn off the problematic questions, you'll be good to go.

I haven't gotten around to doing it. Are the questions longwinded? Are the mock exams online?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,516 ✭✭✭✭briany

Yes. On this site, Solas have provided every question that can possibly appear on the exam, plus the answers, plus a mock test that's in the same format as the real test.

The pool of questions total is about 500, but you wouldn't necessarily have to learn off a lot of the answers. A huge amount of them are complete common sense. Maybe one fifth are problematic or you'd have to check up on.

If one is particularly smart about it, they could pass the exam fairly easily with only a few hours study, making it more time efficient than the regular safe pass course.
