Why don't more people buy/rent up north?

Hi all

Keen to hear people's views - With the housing crisis / expensive rents & house prices etc that's happening across the country, was wondering if many people here or in general have considered buying/renting up north? Properties seem to be fairly cheaper to rent/buy up there when compared to the south. I don't hear it often being suggested in conversation/online etc but have been looking at prices online over the last few months and they seem to be much more reasonable so am keen to hear people's thoughts/views!

Rent is cheap up north because the wages are sh1te

Expensive rents and house prices are driven largely by demand because people want to live somewhere. They’re lower somewhere else because it’s not as attractive as a place to live - job opportunities, types of industries, wages, lifestyle, all sorts of issues.

The demand is huge in the places in the republic with rising prices and the supply simply isn’t able to keep up, even if it’s going pretty fast.

Plenty of areas in the republic, outside of the key cities and very sought after coastal spots that are still reasonably priced, but again it’s supply and demand economics. Popular spots are popular for good reason.
