Just got an email from PayPal giving me a fiver. Logged in and there it was.

You probably haven't used it in a while? I helped someone buy something using PayPal one time using one of my email addresses. They've been offering me a free fiver on it for years.

I thought so too so just logged into pay pal in a new tab without clicking the link in the email and there was my free 5er.

I think it's to get people back to using their inactive accounts rather than reward frequent users. I was offered the €5 on an account I'd forgotten about and not used in ~15 years.
