Galway- got Sky FTTH- speed question and SIRO?

Hi,

So I got Sky up to 500 mbps FTTH yesterday, wirelessly from a new laptop in bedroom (modem is in living room on other side of the house, downstairs) speed test I'm getting 61.3mbps download (modern, 4 bedroom house). On a mobile in same room as router & NBI box, I'm getting 40mbps download.

Any reason why this isn't quicker?

Also, I spoke to Eir today, he tole me Sky aren't offering me proper FTTH, instead a combination of FTTH and cable (SIRO) and that when Eir have FTTH (it's not released on their system yet) it'd be true FTTH, better.

What exactly is he on about please?

You will never reach the advertised speeds via wifi, only with an CAT5 cable.

Cheers, I know that but is what I'm getting standard, I'd have thought it'd be somewhat higher. Having said that everything is much quicker compared to before so I don't need it quicker, just curious.

Would expect somewhat faster than those speeds via wifi - however you cant determine if its router issue or service issue unless you try a speedtest using an ethernet cable on your laptop for example.

Also I'd check that your laptop has a gigabit ethernet port, as that may be a limiting factor also.

What kind of mobile, is it connecting to 2.4 or 5Ghz band? (May be able to see in router device list).

Was that an Eir door to door rep? Sounds like he is talking a load of crap, SIRO is FTTH too and is functionally more or less the same as OpenEir FTTH.

40-60 mbps downloads, seems as 2.4ghz WiFi band .

Only 1 wifi option appears and the leaflet they gave me only showed 1 wifi option

Check wired connection to be sure . We don’t know if it is line issue or only wireless .

There are lots of confusion too, Sky is ISP , but who is your fibre provider NBI or SIRO ?
