Has gone online at Findmypast today.

It's pay per view (just like previous releases were initially) so choose wisely.

And if you are not forking out any money for the Census then just have a peek at a few titbits of information on the BBC website:

More can be heard on BBC Radio 4, 'You and Yours'. I must check that out myself.

Thanks for the tip. I went on FMP and found ancestors I was searching for, but at unexpected location (Gravesend). Given that the census took place in June, might they have been on hols? Anyone know if Gravesend would have been regarded as a holiday location at that time, or was it more of a commercial port?

You have an option to pay for a transcription and another for the actual scan, better just to pay once to see full information and handwritten form.

Gravesend does have some history as a resort for Londoners.

I think holidays are certainly a possibility by the 1920s. Look at the employer for the employed people and research where that business was located. That should help determine if it's your people.

I gave myself a budget of €20 to play around with that new census and came away with 5 images of distant family members but one direct ancestor who happened to be there on business.

The advanced search form will really help you narrow down the results.

If only they'd release our one of the same decade (like they promised)

Once the legislative effort (and opposition to doing that) became clear, that promise evaporated. It'll probably be 2027 or 2028 by the time we have an indexed online version of that census as its likely the won't even start indexing it til its reached the 100 year limit.

It will almost certainly be available FOC though.

It is now in the NAI Strategic Plan for 2022-2025. P27

We will prepare for the launch of the 1926 census on-line as well as refreshing the 1901 and 1911 records within the context of a new genealogy strategy
