The new bus route will run Blanchardstown Centre, Blanchardstown Village, Connolly Hospital, Snugborough Road, Ballycoolin, Finglas, Glasnevin, Collins Avenue, DCU, Howth Road, Clontarf Station, East Wall finishing at Spencer Dock LUAS stop.

En route it will cross the Ballymun road, Swords Road, Malahide Road and Howth Road for connections etc

Will run every 10 minutes during the day monday-saturday and 15-20 minutes off peak and at weekends

    It will replace the 17A

For anyone going beyond Santry Avenue to Beaumont Hospital, Kibarrack etc they will have to change at Finglas Village.

How long will it take from blanch to Spencer Dock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,131 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Won't be quicker then the train anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,944 ✭✭✭thomasj

The terminus will be at the station the docklands station is being moved to.

Will be a handy route for those going to late night concerts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,131 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

True since there's very limited train service time table to the docklands.

The N4 route number will be too easily confused with the primary road system, N2, N3, N4, N7, when it comes to using nav maps etc or when conversing about transport options.

They should have used something more distinct.

Nothing to do with roads so nothing confusing. Just think of N for North Dublin, S South, P are peak, X peak express, L local. The others are spines and the number without a letter are the low frequency radials. It's all explained in the BusConnects website.

And W for West of course. W4 will replace 76A running Tallaght to Blanchardstown running every 30 minutes off peak , 15 minutes peak and will run 7 days !

The ordinary Joe soap is just not going to read that.

I'm not sure we've seen the last of the traditional route numbers yet, not if the people of the City don't take to this new system. And the early signs aren't great to be fair.

A bus from Blanch to Airport / Swords would have been swell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,719 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

    Absolutely right.

A few years back I looked at taking a job based in Swords village and would have liked to use public transport a little bit.

The minimum trip time from Clonsilla was 1 hr 40 and involved three different modes and you had to basically go into town just to travel back out to Swords. It hasn't improved one bit since and the alternative to drive it is just 30 mins.

It's a joke that the first and second towns of Fingal County (Swords and Blanch) haven't been directly linked by bus yet.

Bus to the Airport is on the way

N8 it is . From Blanchardstown to Clongriffin via the Airport.

Every 30 minutes 7 days. Not sure when it starts

It doesn't matter, ordinary people will read or not, but they will learn the routes using the route planner online, through the app or by looking the leaflets and the info in the bus stops.

However, I completely agree that the NTA could have put much more effort doing it better and that the first and second Phases weren't organised well. But that's quiet usual in Ireland - rarely things get done right from the beginning in this county - it's just the people's mentality (lack of attention to details, lack of perfectionism, a bit of laziness, poor organisational skills etc).

I'm almost sure that N8 will be at a later phase (can't remember which one, though, but I think we can't expect it in 2022 yet, sadly as it's a badly needed route).

No bus on the Oscar traynor road then? Ridiculous

This new route , supposing to launch at the end of this month , will be 24 hours from the get go !

Youll be able to get this to the swords road and then hop on a 41

And of course , it will be serving Blanch village, Connolly hospital and snugborough road en route to finglas and onwards towards the 3 arena.

The timetable for the new N4 that will replace the 17a at the end of the month. Will be frequent and 24 hours

Any idea on how long it will take to get from Blanchardstwown to 3 Arena?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,944 ✭✭✭thomasj

I haven't a clue, will have to test it out when it starts. Probably 60-70 minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,984 ✭✭✭Polar101

93 minutes according to the timetable. Not sure why anyone would travel the whole route.

Not having to get a taxi after a gig is pretty swell.

And blanch village will have a 24 hour but service now as will Connolly hospital and ballycoolin/snugborough

Still no direct bus service from Blanch to Swords and the Airport. The first and second towns of Fingal County. What a joke.

The Docklands train service is handy for going to 3 Arena gigs in less than 30 minutes. Looking at timetable, the last service is around 6:30pm from D15 stations and gets you to Docklands just before 7pm. About 10 mins walk from Arena if you don't want to hop on a Luas. Time for a pint before the gig too! A few new bars/hotels have opened nearby as well as the Green Room so more choice down that way now.

Unfortunately no late trains for the return trip home though!

Any word if the n3/navan Rd busconnect will see the light of day.

They obviously need time to compulsory purchase all those front gardens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭Codpeas

I was looking at the Compulsory Purchase Order document for the Belfield/Blackrock scheme - runs to 722 pages! Though in fairness where they are nicking land off an apartment complex they are listing all of the residents (and all of the consultants in Blackrock Clinic for their 460m2 bit).

For that scheme the 'Appropriate Assessment Screening Report' was made available in mid March, notices published earlier this month for the Compulsory Purchase Order with objections open up until July 12th.

The screening report appears to have been made available for N3 scheme yesterday so following same timeline would see Compulsory Purchase Order published in two months time and then two months for objections to be lodged before going for decision/revision. Lot of paperwork between now and then.

I still think it shouldn't have gone the full length of the Snugborough Road rather than say even Blanchardstown Road North past the college or Tyrrelstown and Hollystown. It would have added little by way of additional time but served more, would have made it a reasonable walking distance for more too.

This will be class for getting back for gigs - great to have the safety net of a bus for when taxis are under pressure. Nice link for hospital staff also.

I didn't realise it was Dublin Bus operating this service instead of Go Ahead until yesterday, happy days. Also, I didn't realise the N4 was serving Blanch Village. The school runs will affect that big time.

Absolute life saver for me last night stumbling back from St Anne's Park after 11.30pm. No taxi's, and was planning on getting some bus into town and then the nighttime 39As. And I walked past a stop just by the Beachcomber which had 'N4 Blanchardstown SC 3 minutes' on it. Back o' The Net.
