Block built shed - height restrictions

    Hi All,

Planning on DIYing a block built shed, however I have one question to those in the know re height restrictions.

There's a 3m height restriction, im looking for clarity on from where the height is calculated. Is it from the floor of the main house? Or is it from the foundation of the shed, reason I ask is that my garden is small but has two levels & I was planning on building the shed in the lower level, limiting visual impact of the shed. Hoping that by doing so I can have a higher ceiling height.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mick

I'm assuming you are referring to the max. height for a shed that is exempt from planning in which case the max. is generally 3m measured from the floor of the shed for flat roofed structures. Sheds with pitched roofs to match the house can be as high as 4m.

It's an issue that is down to interpretation. Some will be of the opinion that it's measured from the lowest point of ground level externally but as you intend working from the lowest point you can't go wrong.

I would have taken it as ground level externally, and if there's a difference in level around the shed, ground level externally at the front door to the shed.

There's generally minimal difference anyway so it shouldn't matter too much. However the floor level of the house isn't relevant and won't allow you to build a taller shed.

3m max height with a flat roof.

4m max height with a pitched roof.

height is measured from the ground level immediately adjacent to the shed walls.
