Mechanically opening/ventilated windows

I need to source two mechanically opened/ventilated windows for gables in vaulted ceiling in a renovated house, for elderly person.

House was renovated 9 years ago but original windows not replaced due to budget.

Current windows can only be reached by a ladder, and so cannot be opened.

Mould is forming on either side of window.

Engineer friend has suggested mechanical opened/vented windows.

Any suggestions where to ask? Cheers

One of the big window companies should be able to add an actuator to it and control it from a switch.

Think of it like a Fire Mans Switch in apartments that open the Openable Windows in the stair wells to vent smoke.

Are the current windows in the gable or the vaulted ceiling?

Are the velux for example? I'd go back to the original manufacture and look at actuator options before I replace the whole window. But if has to be replaced, there is no shortage of options.

you'd be surprised at the replies I get when I ask about motorized windows

windows are being replaced anyway, so we want to include motor. Otherwise we've to bring a ladder inside the house to open. there's mould forming around windows due to lack of ventilation and if the kitchen gets too smokey we've to open front doors and lower windows to vent the room

To prevent mould you need continuous background ventilation

If the windows are being replaced, consider permanent vents within the window frame, and also consider mechanical extract from high humidity spaces

yeah. we couldn't do that in the roof space as the original roof is quite old

some of the window companies want to provide a commercial window with an AOV installed by an electrician

Is it not still easier to put a humidity controlled vent into the ceiling/roof?

That wont help with smoke etc, but will stop your mould issues and means you wont have to be remembering to open/close the windows yourself.

we cannot open our current gable windows without bringing a two section ladder into the house.

we've a very high false ceiling which was constructed under the original roof, which was put up in the 1890s. we wouldn't want to go near the original roof
