Oil Boiler Heatpac 90 Lockout - Only On Hot Water Circuit

Lads, I'm having a nightmare with my boiler the last weeks.

It runs 2 zones upstairs/downstairs and hot water (Open System) small tank in the attic which is full and has water flow if needed.

I've had Tech guys out. Boiler is leaking (Not getting enough) combustion air, so replaced gasket door, taped the joints even added a side vent, with vent tubing connected to the burner air intake - issue is not fixed, but leaving the front panel door open slightly allows enough air to circulate (But thats another story)

Boiler circulating pump has been replaced recently.

After turning off the hot water circuit, the boiler 'lockout' has stopped. So I'm 99% sure this was causing the every day lockout I was getting.

What troubleshooting steps would you take to get out back online again?

My first part of any troubleshooting would be to be sure that all noticeable problems are first repaired. In your case, I would make sure no gasses are escaping and that the proper combustion is properly setup with a smoke pump and a flue gas analyser. From there it's easier to isolate problems because by doing that you will have ruled out a multitude of potential problems.

On an aside, don't know of any tech that would walk away from a boiler and leave gasses leaking, unless customer didn't want it fixed (for whatever reason). If that happened, I'd label it dangerous. Photograph the label in place and inform the customer that it should not be used until repaired. Techs do have a duty of care to any job that they call to and safety of occupants comes first.

@Wearb My bad - I made original post edit.

with the everyday lockout you wer getting what did you reset to get boiler running again

burner lockout or thermostat hi limit

Burner Lockout, press in for 5 seconds & it would fire up. Also note - A few times it would purge and not fire, by chance I turned on and off the RCD trip switch and it fired up again. Reset the RCD because the resetting the trip fuse made no difference.

So its been working about 6 days in a row, but this morning, again. Burner Lockout.

ok i think your issue is with the burner

it could be as simple as your burner been overaired perhaps a faulty nozzle or photocell

is your guy a plumber or a boiler tech did you get any printout from any visit

    where are you based

What is the boiler leaking... the boiler is just the water vessel... it may be you mean there gas leakage where the burner is fitted to the boiler...

    I am kinda confused...

Its seems to be a break down in flue seals, they started to break down through age so it will breath in some combustion gasses which then lacks oxygen and gets smothered (At least thats my basic understanding of it) hence why leaving the the front door panel off partially seems to cause much less lockouts.

readings not far off i would prefer to have the fgt up to full temp before final set up

and the nozzle size is extremly small

but neither of these are causing the lockouts

I suspect you may have the wrong fuel jet.... or the pressure is not set high enough on the fuel to create a spray that will ignite and burn properly... Leaving the door open is just adding oxygen for the excess fuel to burn i would think... i had this problem and increasing the pressure made it ok...

the print out from fga posted above suggests the air/fuel ratio is good

i would under no circumstances advise increasing fuel pressure without knowing what effect it will have on the combustion figures

you could leave a boiler pumping out high levels of co

I think you should be calling the service guy then... there is certainly something wrong and you just had serviced... get them to put it right...
