So unless you are actually feckless & have your head in the sand its hard to not notice that Putin is massively building up his forces at the Border with Ukaine, making demands to NATO or else Military action to Ukraine or NATO will happen....Time for Ireland to do away with its so called "Neutral" status because in real life Ireland is not & does not have a Neutral status, Joe Public likes to think so but in fact we have a policy of Non Alignment but always siding with the more normal & respectful powers that be IE The Western Civilised World.

Ireland in fact is a soft touch on Europe, no Air Interceptors, no Primary Radar, no Warships, no Main Battle Tanks or any kind of effective Standing Army, easy to see why Russia often flys along NATO/Europe Airspace to probe their defences & reaction times & the glaringly obvious hole in the net is us. Interesting times.

Hopefully WW3 will be nuclear so our eventual deaths will be quick and painless when we are instantly vaporised.

No one is going to war over the Ukraine.

But if they do then Ireland is a fairly low priority on the invasion list for either side.

I'm watching this documentary called Home Alone where this young man has set up a series of traps to keep out intruders. I'm taking notes and will report back.

I daresay Psychlops, that in fact we have 2.0 Million troops; over 700 warships and submarines, including 20 aircraft carriers,100 submarines, dozens of amphibious assault ships and guided missile destroyers; 20,000 fighters, bombers, transports, drones and helicopters; 20,000 tanks, fighting vehicles and self propelled guns and a force of about 6,000 nuclear warheads.

I do accept that those are the figures for NATO power and that we are not in NATO. But, we have the good fortune to live in a nice strategic little backwater, bang in the middle of the NATO umbrella, with all of that metal flying around over, under and around us.

And while I'm the first to complain that Ireland doesn't look after its own defence needs nearly well enough, the reality is that when push comes to shove, we all live on a big green aircraft carrier in the Atlantic, miles from what will be the front.

Poor trolling. Of course Ireland isn’t neutral, everyone can see our nation’s complicity in US war crimes.

But the idea of Russia invading here simply won’t happen. How do you think they’d get their forces from their nearest territory to here by so many other nations?

Oh, that’s right, back to the start of my post....

Sending Ireland to fight against Russia is like sending Pee Wee Herman to fight Mike Tyson. Stay out of it, we have no skin to win from such a scenario and lots to lose.

The best prepared won't be announcing it to the world. But what qualifies as prepared? A stock of jacks roll and beans? A hidden cabin in a remote location? A place in an underground bunker? A NZ passport? A rocket to take you to the moon?

Putin doesnt have the finance to run any war against Nato.

    The end.

We will be cursing the greens yet again when we run out of electricity due to a Russian gas embargo and find all the peat stations have been demolished.

I don,t think theres a chance of a world war involving china, america or russia .America imports billions of goods from china, all countrys all now connected by trade apart from north korea cuba and iran which are being sanctioned. Theres a cold war going via hackers, countrys like russia and china have state sponsored hackers which look for data on new industrial products, weapons, or any info which may be useful to their intelligence service .

israel is now hacking iran infrastructure in order to cause chaos and reduce public support for the iranian government

    https://www.wired.com/story/hacking-iran-critical-infrastructure-israel/

So much of our society depends on computer networks its alot easier to employ hackers in cyberwar than to spend billions on tanks and

    aircraft carriers

The Russian military has one million people on active duty and up to 20 million reservists. There's no way we could feed that many prisoners.

If hypothetically Ireland did go to war with Russia it would most likely be as an ally of the nations that oppose Russia, in the event it goes to war with the EU nations, I could see a joint military force being formed with Ireland and various other EU nations joining their armies together to share on resources and manpower. I don't imagine we'd be fighting Russia without support from the other nations. I mean what are NATO and the European Defence Agency for if not to support allies in times of war?

Russia is the place where great European armies go to die.

So who’s talking about invading Russia? I don’t see anyone suggesting that. Ukraine? Not a member of NATO, and half the country - the East and South - would probably welcome a Russian takeover. It would take more than that for NATO to mobilise troops to the region. I just don’t see Russia looking past “their” half of Ukraine. As for attacking a NATO country: this is not 1938 and Putin is not as irrational as Hitler was.

Russia, Britain, the EU, USA and China will not attack any of the others on that list. Not a hope. Its not the early part of 1900s anymore the economic consequences much too great for all sides.

I can see Russia, China continuing to cause uproar with the bullying tactics on small neighbours, but thats about it. USA might have a cut off another Muslim country again too but they haven't decided yet which one.

    I'm more worried about

than I am about the Russians OP

It's hilarious isn't it, I'm no fan of the Americans but I have to give credit where credit is due.

Over the last 20 years illegal invasions, entire countries turned into rubble, countless massacres, millions dead and they can still convince people that Putin is the bad guy.

World War if it ever broke out between Russia and the ‘West’ I think it’s curtains for life as we know it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,184 ✭✭✭riclad

There's no chance of a war between the superpowers there might be a war between Iran and Israel or China might invade Taiwan if it thinks its safe to do so. Most European country's are in the EU. At this point trade is global between 90 per cent of country's Japan is a western ally . North Korea US being sanctioned its monitored by satellites and USA army on the border the reason for wars to break out is global warming certain county's may run out of water or become literally too hot to live in which will cause millions of people to leave or become illegal immigrants in some country's right now farmers are protesting because of lack of water resources . Some country's are unstable because of hyper inflation basic goods like water bread milk are going up in price every month

To make a world war the USA China or Russia would have to be involved why would they do this? I can't see any logical reason of course it's unpredictable what will happen if global warming gets worse in a few years

Neither did Iraq or Afghanistan, and they won.
