Walker Tv 55" for simple sat/terrestrial combination ??

    I asked a similar question, many moons ago, but wondering is there changes since.

    Thinking of getting the parents, the 55" Walker tv, although they already have a 55" LG.

    As I will probably purchase online, Before I do, anyone with experience of this set, does the Walker tv allow FTA satellite and Saorview terrestrial on the one channel list.

    Not interested in recording, epg, sky boxes, freesat nothing.

    All I want is to emulate the "old days" when they had a "Bbbc/Rte aerial"

    plug in the sat feed and the aerial, tune in and arrange the channels, then

    Press 1 - Rte 1.

    Press 2 - Net 2.

    " "

    " "

    Press 8 - Bbc 1

    Press 9 - Bbc 2

    Press 10 - Utv

    etc

    Can this be done, ie. seamlessly select a sat channel or a terrestrial channel using nothing else other than the channel number.

    If so, is the Walker the only suitable set ?

    Don't all TV's have the facility to just press 1, 2 etc to switch to that channel number? (Just checked mine and you have to enter the 3 digit channel number i.e. 001, 002 but there maybe a setting you can change so it's single digit only)

    But why not just use the guide anyway?

    And wow Net 2 lol

    I have a Walker and Toshiba, both Vestel chassis, for a few years now. I'm not sure if the UI had changed since.

    On these sets the satellite channels are stored from 300 upwards, they cannot be moved below this.

    The radio channels can be hidden/deleted or any of the TV channels if required, so that you can easily move from Saorview channel 23 to satellite channel 301 for example.

    The channel list can be accessed by pressing the ok button on the r/c so that you can scroll up and down the list and then select the channel required.

    The EPG will only display the channels on the tuner currently in use, Saorview channels if in the terrestrial tuner, satellite channels when in the satellite tuner.

    Thanks for the reply m8.

    I am well versed in the satellite game from the D2mac days up to Enigma 2, but the reason for my specific questions, is my parents, can no longer "handle" the tv guide, forget how to change inputs on the tv, press the input button twice, or the sky box, goes into standby etc etc, you get the picture.

    A second remote is also a non runner, as is a single remote with selectable devices.

    In everyday life, they are more than happy with the FTA satellite channels, and just want the Rte news at 9:00, the BBC news at 10:00 etc.

    They won't be looking at any channel list or guide they know their programmes and know when they are on.

    It's hard to explain, but their memory of the "way it was" is perfect, but something like selecting an input or changing tuner or box is a non runner, believe me, I have tried.

    They can remember a channel number perfectly, and just want it like the "old days" . Switch on the tv with the remote, turn up the volume, enter the channel number and watch. That's the way it worked most of their life, and they have a point I suppose, why is this so difficult to do now.

    A 3 digit channel number is no issue at all, they will remember that after a few days, and I can laminate a sheet with:

    101 = RTE 1

    103 = Virgin 1

    302 = BBC 1

    510 = Sky News

    etc etc.

    All that matters to me, is that the satellite and terrestrial tuner behaves as a single tuner and switches seamlessly using only the channel number.

    Ok, the Saorview channels are 1-23 atm, and sat channels 301 upwards provided there has been no change in the UI since I purchased mine

    My Toshiba is set just as you would like. Switch on, button 1 is for BBC1, then scroll down to BBC2, 3, 4, ITV, RTE1, 2, then it scrolls back to BBC1 again.

    No need to know channels or whether signal is from dish or aerial. Just one simple remote.

    To make the operation this simple took time. First download all the satellite channels, then fillet them to what’s

    wanted and assign to R/C buttons. Same for RTÉ. Any TV with two tuners should allow for this.

    Cheers m8,

    That sounds perfect to me, like I said, I don't really care what the numbers are and the order doesn't matter either.

    As long as pressing eg 02 gets Rte 2 and pressing eg. 302 gets BBC 2 then everybody is happy. 😀

    Thanks m8.

    No it doesn't work that way with most of them, that's why I'm enquiring about the Walker set.

    The LG , that they already have, has two tuners, great picture, but it's impossible to get it, to do what I want.

    Not being ageist, but it's the little details that matter here.

    eg I gave them umpteen mobile phones, none of them a success, often just forgetting to press the red button when the call ended, or pressing the green button before dialling etc.

    Found a Dora flip phone, has an A,B,C button for 3 pre progammed numbers, close the phone and call ends. It sounds easy but it was pretty much a life changer for them, solved all the issues for them and they take the phones with them all the time, job done.

    if Dora did tv's ....... 😀😀

    Both Saorview and satellite appear on the one list as said and if you want to take it a step further download the Vestel app and you can renumber the sat channels and move BBC, ITV, etc up to 7 8, 9 10, etc, it takes a few minutes, if it is worth the effort is another matter.

    Cheers m8, yeah worth the effort for me, a few minutes work for hopefully many years of peace. 😀

    Walker Tv in place, 90% good.

    Channels arranged as mentioned in thread, with sat channels eg BBC 1 starting at 301.

    This is where there is a slight issue, the 'auld fella is struggling to input the 3 digits quick enough.

    As mentioned, the "on tv" settings editor, won't let me designate a satellite channel with a number lower than 300.

    Your arrangement with the channels 1 - 10 would make it 100 % perfect.

    I downloaded the Vestel Smart Centre app and can control the tv, show pictures, videos etc etc, but when I select "settings", "channel list" , on the app it just shows an input box with Search/Channel/Name/Number, no channels appear.

    Is there a downloadable channel list somewhere with the channels exactly as you have them, or is there a settings editor to make a list like so ?

    Sorry for the misinformation, it was the Walker smart centre app I used, I have it on an old phone, if you select the 3 dots on the left below the smart tv button it brings you to the channel edit section. I found it best to put the sd channels in the low numbers, I have the HD channels from 60 up.

    You can change the channel list with the Vestel app too, in settings, channel list, change number.

    No misinformation, your information was perfect, except it doesn't seem to work on my Tv.

    In the Smart Centre app, for me everything works, but NO channels appear in "settings, Channel List", it's blank and stays blank, despite the tv being connected.

    I tried another tv Smart Centre app on Android rather than IOS which I was using and this brought up the channel list. Allowed me change the channel and I noticed once I had changed one, the tv then let me allocate as I wanted, i.e now I could move 302 to 6 etc. The app duplicated the channel numbers, as in I then had two 6s, but I just moved the one I didn't want.

    End result all perfect, channel list as required and 'auld fella happy - result.

    Thanks for the help guys.

    Glad it worked out, was android v ios the issue. You may have to update the list every so often but the main channels rarely change, although ITV did a move a few months ago but you have the app and the know-how now.
