Just a big thank you and Happy Xmas to all the posters on the Bargain Alert forum

Im curious as to what you think your best bargain of 2021 was?

For myself probably was the cheap Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G from Vodafone for 69.99 but I'm getting ongoing pleasure from the cheap Tidal, Youtube Premium and Netflix subscriptions :-)

The Cross pens thread from all the way back on 1st January had all the hallmarks of a classic BA.

Premium product that you didn’t know you needed but instantly found the urge to buy, ultimately utterly unnecessary but a discount too good to be ignored, the discovery that codes could be stacked leading to 75% off, confusion, will they/won’t they dispatch, a lesson in the reality of post brexit VAT/duty situation, cancelled orders, some anger and eventually, resignation. Top quality drama.

I was one of the lucky ones to actually get my pen and I’ve been using it daily since.

The Cross pens was my one hit wonder. I love my pen.

The Times €5 annual subscription that appeared on Black Friday was an impulsive buy because it was so cheap and I've read the site and app everyday since super bargain

The HBO Max Carribbean/Latin America thread has been great too, I didn't sign up to it until after the 50% discount expired but I'm pretty happy I've still got a Brazil 4k annual subscription for €39

As already mentioned SSport+ has been BA of the year for me, Sennheiser Euro 2020 discounts were stupid good value too while it lasted

The Google Stadia was great as I was going to buy a Chromecast anyway

The Asus laptop from Littlewoods was perfectly timed for my dad’s birthday and saved me spending twice as much

And the little USB fan from Amazon was really handy during the summer for €8 or whatever it was.

Pixel 4a @ €99 was one of the best and the stadia for €22. Lots of bits and pieces on amazon up till June when the VAT was being removed.

Best steal was a Lenovo G5 desktop i5 10400, 16gb Ram, 512gb M2 drive and a GTX 1660 Super graphics card for €329! The graphics card alone would cost about €500 in the current market.

Yea long gone was back in May was only up for an hour before it sold out. Was sure it would be cancelled as a miss price. Normal price was about €900 it had dipped to the €600 mark a few times. Lenovo pricing yo yo's a lot and there can be great deals.

What was the €99 4a? I think I paid €179 and then didn't go back to the thread much. Did they reduce the retail price to €199 while still having the €100 off for switching or was there another method?

The Times Ireland Digital Edition - €5 for 12 months.

    I got it today 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭Waesfjord

just wondering how good is the UK Times (Irish edition) - how much Irish content does it have. It's cheap, but wondering what's in it that may be of interest, compared to Guardian which has alot of the international content anyway.

The 69 euro Xiaomi 5G for me, great phone and the timing couldnt have been more perfect as my old phone was almost dead with a cracked screen and battery life gone to pot.

The Amazon VAT free purchases were great too, it was like a 20% off sale that lasted 6 months, we will never see the likes of it again.

How much the Guardian cost? I keep seeing the 6 magazine deal, and cant decide if its my thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭jakdublin

Got those newspaper deals but for a fiver the Times/Sunday Times is tops for me. Also got the Argie Tidal and Indian YouTube deals.

The latest iPad mini is a little beast of a machine, but it's very expensive and unless you're a creator I'd opt for the basic iPad, which is half the price. I got myself and iPad Air this year, but it's wasted on me as I'm just using it for browsing, reading and watching videos.

Pretty sure the Guardian is always free, they do have a premium membership which might give a few extra articles but the free version is perfectly adequate for most.

If its magazines you are after then go to your local library website and get a membership number. Then download a free app called Libby and enter the library card number. This will then give you access to thousands of magazine that you can read for free from the current edition to the back catalogue. Theres lots of premium stuff there for free like Hello! magazine and 150 others in the Celebrity/Showbusiness section alone. Theyve tons of sections like wildlife, home and garden, DIY, motoring, health and fitness, etc Theres no need to ever pay for a magazine again with this app.
