Outside Fence Varnishing/Painting

    Hello,

I have a new house with an outside fence which is plain wood/timber. See attached photo.

I don't care too much about aesthetics. I am more interested in keeping the fence protected.

What's the best type of paint/varnish to put on it? Someone told me owatrol oil but would love to hear other educated opinions. (I started with this on the right hand side but other folks told me it may not be the best.)

    Thanks in advance,

    K

It depends what finish you want, a wood look or painted.

Once you paint it you will be painting it forever.

As said above it can depend on what finish you want , but honestly something like "ronseal fence life ", ( or the cuprinol version mentioned above ) would be best ,

It can be messy to apply , you tend to splash it every where , but you can get a spray version ...

Did 4 new build house fences last summer’ and spraying is a no no in this country unless the house hasn’t neighbours,

shagging stuff goes everywhere, and if you’re fence is backed onto another house fence you need to mask off the neighbours fence tops, put drop sheet onto neighbours side ( keep good relations)

3 coats minimum- i mask off top n bottom of fence ( protect decking etc)

its worth preparing properly honestly, Iain in the but necessary

( used another product aswell duck something or another- I’ll check my photos and get back)
