Things should quieten down for the afternoon here in Connacht before winds pick up again later this evening and overnight:

Cork airport gusting 59kts in the latest update. Can definitely "hear" the wind but it's up higher, the occasional strong gust at my level... If that makes sense

Edit: well the trees just started nearly bending in half.

Calm and sunny now in Cork City - in the eye of the storm I guess?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Is the centre a double-low? One off the west coast of Clare and the other near Mace Head?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,059 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

Sherkin gusting 71 knots and 10am!

The eye of the storm won't be anywhere near Cork.

Cork Airport reported wind speeds - some increase from 0900h to 1000h --- wonder what 1100h will yield.

Currently 133 km away From Galway but at the moment from my understanding Galway has now been cleared from the eye at least but Castlebar may have the eye

Eye currently looks to be just west of Clew Bay.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭SouthWesterly

Why would my pressure be so low at 943hpa.?

    I'm 166 m asl

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,872 ✭✭✭Storm 10

Serious looking showers at the end of that centre

The storms forward motion has slowed down now considerably. Picking up along the South coast. Higher gusts here near Tralee too, no anemometer in action atm.

    960.8 hPa Falling Rapidly

You could add about 1hpa for every 10m of height for the sea level pressure

Squall line from Derry to Swansea, can't say I've seen that before!

  • Registered Users Posts: 698 ✭✭✭Tazio

Cork Airport reported wind speeds... in the last hour it has moderated somewhat ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Gaoth Laidir

That's obviously your station pressure, not reduced to sea level. Altitute of 160 m amsl would equate to a sea-level pressure of ~964 hPa, which is more reasonable. The conversion is 1 hPa for every 8.1 metres or so.

GFS 06z showing sustained winds over 80km for Mayo and Sligo tonight - upgrade to a red warning surely?

Hirlam showing this continuing well into Wednesday. I'm using windguru to see those values
