BMW Battery Distribution Terminal

Car would not start. No power at all.

Thought it was a battery problem but then noticed the plastic at the positive terminal melted.

Battery is at 12.5V.

Does this mean a new Battery Distribution Terminal & that the existing one has activated the explosive charge for whatever reason?

Seen one of them to blow before on a car that had been damaged previously.It's the airbags that ignite it(yellow loom feeding it). It hadn't melted like that though,you could hear it rattling inside when it was removed. I wonder if your car was that a loose connection that got hot? If I remember correctly it had ignition lights & cabin power but no power to anything under the bonnet.

Looking at your pic again - the square box that you have disconnected is the igniter. Almost certainly that was a bad connection & not the charge that exploded.

I will have a look tomorrow in better light. Perhaps clean it up & add a washer top & bottom to form a better bond.
