The Met warning for Clare is only from 4pm, so this means primary schools can open but secondary schools can't?

Or if the school closes at 3:50pm, do they still open tomorrow and let the kids waiting for busses and walking cycling home from school take their chances

I would be very surprised if people don't know how long it takes for them to get from school to home and make a judgement call themselves (either the student and/or the parent/guardian). If a school does decide to open in Clare tomorrow, common sense would be that the school would be closed and everyone be home before the red warning becomes valid. Or does common sense not exist anymore?

Much more importantly, with regards to your final comment, trying to point your finger at Met Eireann is simply wrong. They forecast the weather, not what individuals do or places they travel to/from during the course of the day. The red warning is in place from 16:00 in Clare as the criteria for weather conditions that warrant a red warning are met from that time, based on the current information available to Met Eireann as a weather forecaster. They're not child minders.

At the time I was based on the Mizen, fairly high up, when Ophelia came along. It was nuts. The windows were bending inwards. I was slightly freaking out they were about to shatter. I could see a wave go right over the Fastnet lighthouse which is 54 metres high. Neighbour's cats came in to take shelter. Sherkin Island recorded wind speeds on 135km. The wind was pounding the place coming right in from the south when usually during storms it comes in from further to the west.

I'm still in West Cork for this one, but sadly not on the Mizen and have no view of the Fastnet or the sea.

Been watching the fishing boats come up the river suir all day. Still surprised to see so many fishing boats off the coast of Kerry on marine traffic.

Quiet so far on the Dingle peninsula - quiet relative to the typical windy weather we get. Tomorrow ought to be fun. Hunkered down with a couple newspapers, plenty of food, blankets, charged electronic devices... Can't wait to go out with the hand-held anemometer and get some readings. Might post them if the Internet stays up!

Met Eireann forecast the storm conditions, and attempt to put timings on it to the best of their ability. They don't plan their forecasts around school times. They've given you the expected conditions, it's up to you to use common sense and plan ahead.

I thought when there is a red warning all businesses should be closed? Staff Work from Home?

I seem to remember during Ophelia many businesses ignored this and as the storm got worse during the morning sent staff home in the middle of the storm?

Of course as far as I know yet again this is ADVICE only so most will probably ignore it? Form on this regard with recent situation we find ourselves in
