Was the late late toy show a ratings flop this year?

When you Google news search late late toy show ratings, the stories that come up are from last year, rte were shouting about the record high ratings within 24 hours of the broadcast in all previous years. It was very noticeable that donations to the beggaton were down 40% this year.

I just can't get my head around why this is such a big deal in this country? How could anyone possibly sit down and watch that man willingly? What is wrong with you all?

I don’t usually watch the ‘Late Late’ but I make an exception for the Toy Show, for the kids.

Thought this year’s one started off pretty “weak” but it really found it’s footing as it went on. Some of the kids were, seriously, impressive as was the money raised for good causes.

Would prefer if it started a bit earlier as the kids are hanging by the end of it and, usually, I’ve to watch it again because one of them fell asleep.

Found out my kids had been misbehaving earlier in the evening when out with their mam.

Read them the riot act and sent them to bed. No toy show this year. 😏

I don't mind Tubridy. I can't watch the Late Late any more because of all the cancer and suicide, but he's always been very good on the Toy Show.

It seems to have sparked off some weird "traditions", like putting the Christmas tree up in November and the whole family watching the Toy Show in matching Christmas pyjamas.

Matching pyjamas are for all year round, not just for Christmas.

I don’t generally watch the LLS at all, even though I don’t have the irrational hatred many here have for RTE and Tubs. However, the kids like the Toy Show, so we always have it on, a few treats in, and the decorations up.

Don’t pay much attention to it myself, but I got to stay up late for it in the 70s and 80s, and I like it that my kids now do the same and that Ireland has a tradition that’s just for us. It’s certainly better than that Dinner For One shite they all watch in Germany every New Year’s Eve.

The only people who watch this are kids and their parents. Who else cares?

We haven't watched the Toy Show for years, ours are now adults and they stopped as well. A friend told me they don't actually have toys on the toy show any more! That was a surprise to me!

Yeah, it’s three hours of Tubs just standing in a white room, staring silently into the camera now. But it’s a tradition, and the kids enjoy it.

Just saw RT announcing there were 1.8 million viewers for the Toy Show.

He sounded kind of happy with that.

I suppose that answers the question in the OP.

I know someone who watched it to make memes to post on Twitter in an attempt to promote their YouTube channel.

The who else cares it seems are the people who come on here with their anti RTE and anti Tubridy agenda.

The show thread was full of them on the night
