Cereal at night

So did a weeks shopping yesterday - so no shortage of options in the press/fridge. Had the dinner around 5:30.. Im able to cook whatever i want "within reason".. So why is it i "and so many others" go for a bowl of cereal at night. Is it an irish thing we do. Getting ridiculous at this stage, 3 nights this week i had cereal.

When I lived alone I often had a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes in the evening..... weetabix for breakfast crunchy nut for night time.

I would have had a dinner in work around 12:30 so there were plenty of times I wouldn't be arsed cooking and I'm not really one for takeaways.

Ah yeah i had a few dealz wraps earlier. 6 pack of tayto, 2 selection boxes, a tray of green grapes and 2 litres of coke also but there just snack attacks - hardly meals. I know how to space it all out.

I have even less healthier cereals for 'tea' round 8 3/4 evenings a week. I'm sure it's better to be eating that late though than a pizza or something...

That’s exactly it. I always had cereal for supper when I was a kid. At the time, I thought it was universal, but my wife never heard of the phenomenon, so I’m not too sure how common it was or is.

Is it a carb craving thing? I find the later it gets the more I crave carbs over everything else. Have not eaten Pringles for years but I still at least once a week find myself craving a tube around 9pm.

I have to avoid food late anyway. Whatever metabolism I have - if I eat late I still sleep but the sleep quality tanks. I can not get up when I normally would. And even if I can - my performance on everything suffers for the day.

Do most of my eating from 9-19:00 these days and try not to eat before or after this. It leaves me alert and effective and no afternoon slumps or similar.

I'm happy this thread exists. I pretty much only eat cereal at night. Bowl of cornflakes between 9-10pm has become a bit of a ritual. Sometimes I won't even be hungry, I'll be about to put the dishwasher on and I'll suddenly think "I haven't had any cornflakes" so I'll fix myself a bowl.

Since we had kids we eat dinner way earlier now so by 10pm I haven't eaten in 3-4 hours. That's time for another meal by anyone's standards.

Love a bowl of Corn Flakes after a night out, not one for a take away in general. My wife and kids will indulge and I'll make a sandwich.

But a bowl of flakes after a few beers in the pub still something I like when we get home. Sometimes I'll nuke them this time of year. Warm soggy corn flakes are contentious I know and I'd never eat them sober but with a few beers on board? yeah.

Cereal for supper is an "outside the pale" thing in my experience of college house mates and family who've married in and their kids.

but when I was a kid/teen, we had dinner at 5 and then "supper" which with either a ham sambo and a piece of tart or something or a bowl of cereal.. this was the norm..

if I had my dinner at 5.30 I would absolutely need something b4 bed,.. would ye not also?

but now, I have dinner at 8 then a cuppa and some choc so no cereal for me at night... but yeah, when younger it was the norm
