Recording from aerial, viewing satellite

I recently switched from Sky to a combination of Saorview (from aerial) and Freeview (through the Sky dish). Both fed directly into two TVs, each with a USB drive for recording, pause TV etc.

While I understood that a limitation was that I wouldn't be able to watch one satellite channel while recording another satellite (or watch one aerial channel while recording another aerial one), I thought I would be able to record on aerial (e.g. record RTE) record while watching satellite (e.g. BBC).

But TV won't allow me. Forces me to cancel scheduled recording if I want to continue watching live TV.

Is something wrong with this setup? May give installer a call if so.

I'm no expert but i think the " fed directly into two TVs " is your problem , unless you have a seperate (satellite and aerial) feed for each TV .

That would be normal on many combo Saorview/Sat tv's, some of the more advanced sets have 2 tuners for sat or both. I keep a combo box for the rare time I want to view and record on either.

You cannot get Freeview through a sky dish. Freeview is a UK terrestrial service received through an aerial only.

You mean free to air satellite service.

Just to clarify, your TV has a terrestrial and satellite tuner so there is no reason why it shouldn't be able to allow you to record a terrestrial and satellite channel at the same time. There are many combo boxes on the market that do this.

The problem is more a software restriction than a hardware one. I wouldn't be holding my breath for any firmware updates to resolve this though.
