Council Trees?

Has anyone had any luck getting DLR to deal with their own trees?

We have 3 25+ year old trees outside the house, overhanging halfway into our front garden (20 feet) and towering over the height of the house.

i've tried numerous times to contact them and even local TDs but nothing ever gets done.

Its at the stage now that if I were to prune the bits overhanging my property the tree would probably fall down

In our estate (Stillorgan area) they took out or topped all the trees that were obscuring the street lights. When a neighbour took out a couple trees in the curb because they cast a shadow on his garden, I got them replaced by DLR and there was mention of sending him the bill!

Tell them its a H&S issue and you'll be filing a claim when the trees fall on your property...

Yeah, I'm in Rathfarnham and in many places the hundreds of cheapo trees they planted 30 years ago actually form a tunnel over the road and up and down each side.

A couple of years ago they did some pruning in some areas, but really these all need to be removed and replaced with size appropriate trees, no these 50ft solid monsters.

I raised H&S issue as they have broken up the curb and pavement in areas, but they just came along and ground down the path instead!

Do you really think that if you claim h&s and threaten to sue, such a stupid tactic would work?

For the op, just prune the tree yourself. That's what I and most of my neighbours did in Dundrum when I lived there.

It's past the point of pruning tbh, they are so overgrown then anything I'm pruning would be 8-10" in diameter.

I do because it did. I told them I felt the tree was a trip hazard as its roots were lifting and cracking the path. The council agreed and cut down the tree. Far from stupid when a health and safety matter is exactly what it is!

I've had better responses from the general DLR email - info@dlrcoco.ie - than fixmystreet in recent years. You will get a case number in response, and you can follow up on that case in a few weeks if not resolved.
