Cleaning an Insulated Attic Tank

I used to regularly clean our plastic attic tank (once a year or so, due to amount of sand/sediment in mains supply). However, some years back I was convinced to insulate the tank with lagging for insurance purposes.

I can tell now that the tank needs to be cleaned again, water quality has taken a dip around the house. Would I need to cut up the lagging somehow to do this? anyone tackled this before?

Hard to answer without a photo of what you've done but I think it's definitely a good idea to allow for the lid to be removable for essential inspection and maintenance anyway (replacing a failed ball cock valve for instance). My own tank is lagged with a DIY solution also- rockwool in plastic bin bags, secured in place with velcro ties- very secure but can be removed easily if required.

Ye, access should have been left for the reasons mention above. You'll just have to cut it as neatly as you can and fix it up when you're finished with some duct tape. Hopefully it's the modern insulation and not the old itchy stuff.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Most companies doing attic insulation don't seem to have a clue what they are doing. They roll it over everything without leaving access to shutoff valves. Worse still rolling it over transformers or electric shower cable creating a fire hazard. As soon as you have a plumber or electrician in the attic it will get pulled out of place & damaged

I've been in a few attics in recent years where work was carried out by "professional" installers under SEAI grant schemes- didn't see any

good work- plenty of stuff like you say plus external wall vents fitted upside down (to funnel rain into the wall!), badly fitted vent tiles, ineffective pipe lagging, blocked eaves vents etc.
