Chervon - asking for EUR500

    Hello,

I've been approved by social welfare to do a level 5 course with Chervon. And I thought all was good and was ready to start. They (chervon) contacted me last week on the phone looking for my bank details for Eur500 which they said I would get back after completion of the course. I was hesitant to give my bank details at the time so i hung up.

Today I called chervon and they said yes I have to pay EUR500 before I can start the course and will get it back after completion. I ask for this in a mail which they sent this afternoon.

My question is - is this normal? I do not have EUR500 to pay for a course just like that.

I'm disappointed as it looks like i won't be able to do the course.

I know very little about this company but on looking at their website they are accredited to the DEASP.

I'm unsure if you did your research before considering this company for the course but it does state a Deposit of €500 is required, however whilst you've mentioned they sent you an email the site clearly states..

Please note for Higher Educational programmes are subject to non-refundable €500 deposit

I can only surmise this company has an agreement with DEASP to refund SW recepients on completion of courses but that is not entirely clear.

The fact however remains, a deposit is required upfront and it's alot for anyone on a SW payment. Wether they allow a payment installment for the deposit is not clear.

Sorry I can't offer any other advice but you may need to look at other options if the initial deposit is a stumbling block.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

They've agreed to take 5 x EUR100 payments which should work for me. I want to do the course and move on to something better.

You should talk to your local community welfare officer about this. They might be able to arrange a payment to you that you have to refund SW after.

Failing that your credit union might help if you are with them
