It's already been highlighted in the Joe Biden megathread.

Contrary to the right wing outrage, in reality, it was not the smoking gun story TERFS and others of a similar ilk thought it was.

Imagine posting a story about this horrific crime and using it to talk about transgenders.

Just waiting for the usual suspects to come in and say the girl made it up now.

There is literally nothing to stop anyone walking into any bathroom, regardless of gender.

Given that this particular individual then assaulted someone else, not in a bathroom, would suggest an opportunistic offender.

Does this prove that TERFs have been justified?

    No.

If anything it's the exception that proves the rule.

And, how are you plan to stop a male, skirt wearing or not, from entering?

Are you proposing some sort of security person conduct a visual exam?

Just pointing this out, non-judgementally. Until the recent trans / gender fluid / non-binary rights issues went mainstream, if someone who looked like a man walked into a woman's bathroom, it would be a warning sign to most people if they saw this. And any anyone inside would also be asking "what are you doing here?".

Even though the actual risks are probably statistically very low, there's a reason wh9y parents don't want their boys to go into bathrooms on their own. Whether its the recent stories of adult men looking for sex in M&S toilets in Dublin ( Man spared jail over lewd act in Marks & Spencer toilet (irishtimes.com) ), or Fr Sean Fortune kicking in cublicle doors and raping kids randomly in the 70s and 80s - its understandable why people try and avoid these scenarios.

And hence why womens bathrooms were viewed as "safer".

INMO if someone is a sex predator, they'll find an opportunity and ladies only signs on bathroom doors won't provide much safety.

And why would a bathroom in particular cause any additional risk?

What is the difference in a bathroom and any other room?

I don't know about men's changing rooms, I don't frequent them, but the majority of any female changing rooms I have been in , in this country, consist of small cubicles, where women go to hide themselves from the beady eye's of other women.

You'll not see much in one!

It appears that the girl who was assaulted in the first had some sort of relationship with her attacker and had arranged over the phone to meet them in the school bathroom

That's not to take away from the fact that she was subjected to horrific attack.

The manner in which the management at the school, the school board and the area school managers handled it and subsequent events was appalling.

Oh fantastic. You got to love how one incident (or two, it's unclear what actually happened in the second case) can be turned into a ridiculous whatever rights drama. At least it will be forgotten again in another week when the (social) media circus found a new attraction.

Has anyone heard tell of Philip Chism?

He was a student who followed his teacher into the women's toilets and murdered her.

    No skirt

    No dress

    No cute crop top

    No sling backs

Pretty sure that individual didn't identify as female just to access a female prison, they are not housed in with the general population anyway.

The argument against Trans rights because rapists will start entering women's spaces is up there with the old argument that we can't allow gay marriage because paedophiles will use it as a front to adopt kids.

This is a tragic story and it's disgusting that people claiming to be protecting women's rights are using this sexual assault as a weapon against another marginalized community.
