Don't have them but Feedall tubs have a good rep afaik. Made in kilkenny i think, was there someone here with them maybe? Whatever the manufacturer check is that the capacity with or without the auger in it? For any type of feeder always better to go the size up if you can stretch to it. Availability could be an issue the way things are as well

trioliet is bombproof. I have single auger 1200 since 07. only needs blades. fed average 250 cattle a yr since. going 160 days a yr on average. hr r so a day .

I presume the big difference between any of them is if they were mixing bale silage like you could have tractor opened up for an hour for a mix

that depends on your blades. it doesn't pay to have bad ones with bales as blades cheaper than diesel and wear and tear

I have a feedall, they are better built than anything else I looked at and the father and son are great to deal with.

It should never take an hour, or anywhere close to it to mix a load. If using pit silage put the straw and meal in first then the silage and by the time you’ve the last grab in it’ll be well mixed already. Leave it mixing for 2 or 3 more minutes and that’ll be it. Bales will take a few mins longer but nothing major.

If it’s taking an hour to mix it’s time for either new knives, a new feeder or a new driver!!

Whats The biggest single auger tub feeder that you can get?

Feedall do a 15m one. Redrock have a 14m model. Haven't seen any bigger than them.

    A 14m would do 140 finishing cattle would it and a 15m 150head?

I worked with them once. Absolute gentlemen. Great men to adapt a feeder for any particular set up.

looking at new diet feeders here too, have looked at trioliet, redrock and feedall so far. all well made tubs, theres a few lads i know after buying new keenans in the last year and all seem to be very happy with them, more consistent mix than a tub feeder they say?

Yeah but though I read/heard that every 1m3 would feed 10 cattle, was wondering was this accurate.

Entirely dependant on what your going to be feeding, the 14 cub redrock here will hold a six ton mix of maize silage/wagon silage and 500kgs of meal, if you where putting in baled silage only for instance you'd be lucky to get 3 ton in it, as its a fluffier mix and harder mixed less dense

When I worked at diet feeders the tubs did a better mix, but keenans always had the more polished feed out. If you looked at the output the keenan feed out always looked the best, but the tubs actually had the best mix. It probably stands to reason, the paddle types will struggle to mix along the lenght but the tub by their nature will mix everything fully.

keenans nearly broke themselves with their better mix waffle. no use if you are feeding bales. iv had both

The new Kennans are way better at taking bales

    weve no issue with ours

keenan Can’t seem to shake it unfortunately

they were poor previously when they were only the 10 cu machine with only a dozen knives

    we’ve 50 in ours

What number of beef cattle do you need to be feeding before it’ll pay to have a feeder? Finish a good few out of the shed here (how ever long we’ll be doing it for I don’t know) and the meal is all coming out of a barrow at the minute. Then silage on top of that is another job.

I’d imagine the feeder would simplify the job and could mix enough for two days to suit the day job etc. Could also allow us maybe cheapen the diet by adding byproducts to the mix.

I was talking to a guy who worked in keenans back the years . he said the bale system wasn't great but has a modern one at home now and swears by it so I wouldn't say never. but my one was new when I bought it and bales did not suit it

I think we run simular numbers and I have tried it twice and gave up both times mainly because I found it time consuming and couldn't control the birds.

I don't like your barrow idea either as its too hard on a man lifting a few tone of meal each week. It's all adlib with hoppers and loader for me.

Your plan of mixing for 2 days I don't think would work either because your mix will go off.

    That's my 2cents

thanks. Wonder what about the meal dispensers for the front loader it would certainly save the back.
