I wanted to add a hkc smoke alarm to a shed/ workshop.

Hkc site says it has an independent alarm bell does this mean the main alarm won't sound also? Also I presume I don't need the house alarm armed for it to be armed. Secure wave system

Presume you mean a Wireless smoke alarm. That can be added to the shed providing the wireless reception is OK at that location. The device would be enrolled as a smoke alarm which would be, by default, a 24 hour zones. This would work regardless of whether the alarm is armed or disarmed.

Yes a wireless smoke alarm. I already have a contact and shock sensor on the door so wireless reception should be ok

    That'll work fine so.

It means the smoke has its own sounder build in and will sound on an fire alarm activation as well as your alarm systems bells.
