Mick Hucknall's Simply Red and Tom Grennan are the latest names announced for Cork's Live at The Marquee which returns next year with a selection of gigs, both newly announced and rescheduled from 2020 and 2021 dates affected by the Covid crisis.

I know you quoted it from de paper, so not having a go at you, but why is it "Mick Hucknall's Simply Red" and not, simply, "Simply Red"?

Should we be saying "Bono's U2?", "Andrea Corr's The Corrs", "Jack White's The White Stripes", "Sting's The Police" ?? It's stupid journalism, imo.

I've no idea if this applies to Simply Red, but it's happened in the past where the original band has gone on touring after the lead guy has left, and use the original name.... So when said lead person starts touring again with a new band they want to use the name again, or maybe he has rejoined original band and using his name before it signifies this.

Happened with ELO, Wishbone Ash, one of the many incarnations of deep purple, Squeeze i think and possibly the jam.

If so, I take it back. If the act are called "Simply Red", why does the journo have to refer to them as the above? It's just annoying. I understand what you are saying but it's up to the performing act to name themselves - no one else. Anyway, this is spectacularly unimportant - sorry folks!

Anyway back on topic.... The National are playing, while I've never been a huge fan of their albums I've seen their show at a few festivals and have been really impressed, great show, would recommend.

Theres riverdance too, if you are into that thing, and I heard mentioned on the radio today that Aikens are teasing at least one "really big international act" for the marquee....Now that could easily be Tom Grennan, I've no idea who he is either!

Was really looking forward to Cat Stevens at the marquee in June last year.............had tickets for Mrs Mc Carthy & myself stashed away in the drawer& hotel booked in cork for the night ( 24th june)................BLOODY COVID!!!!!!!! Hoping he'll be back at some stage

I’d heard there was a big name to be announced. She’s has one of the biggest selling albums this year so is likely to sell out. It may be a short enough set list though if she has only one album if material to draw from.

Tom Jones is the latest artist to confirm a night’s performance at Live at the Marquee this summer.

The Welsh singer will be playing at the iconic Cork venue on Saturday, June 11.

I went to Stephanie Rainey and Tom Grennan, enjoyable, but the place still a kip though and many bush drinking and urinating down Marina road on the way to the gig, the amount of bottles and rubbish was shocking
