Is Xanax officially a controlled substance?

it seems obvious to me that Xanax has to be a controlled substance, but I can’t find it anywhere in writing.

If someone is arrested for being drunk and disorderly, and is found with a few (say 5-6) Xanax tablets in their bag, or test positive for it , are they in trouble if they don’t have a prescription? Or do they get away with it completely?

It is a controlled drug.

Alprazolam is the substance and yes you will be in trouble if found in possession of it without a prescription.

It isn't on the controlled drug register of any hospital in Ireland.

Edit: but I'm confusing legal and healthcare settings.

Alprazolam is listed in Schedule 4 part 1 of of the HSE controlled drug schedules. Schedule 4 was specifically amended to include Benzodiazepines on the list.

Oh I see Xanax is the street name. I wasn’t looking at Alprazolam.

So the guards can actually do something about it. Excellent. I was afraid of a loophole or something.

Alprazolam is a controlled drug under the Schedule of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 (inserted by the Misuse Of Drugs (Amendment) Act 2015).
