Post-War FUN: The Late Late Toy Show-Friday 26th November

With the opening of ticket applications this week for the annual extravaganza (which Ryan rarely mentions), it might be an opportune time to kickstart our yearly discussion.

Outside of mine host's almost daily witterings on the matter, the PR machine is inexorably winding up, as the magical date draws closer and closer.

As always, the theme is somewhat shrouded in suspense, but no doubt we will learn more as the days tick by.

That pinnacle of journalism, evoke.ie, had this to say.

"While it’s not yet Halloween, we can’t help but think forward to this year’s Late Late Toy Show. Before we know it, it’ll be time for everyone to grab their spot on the couch just in time for the annual show.

Now, host Ryan Tubridy has revealed a small clue about this year’s show. Speaking on his RTÉ Radio 1 show this morning, he shared that his schedule is swamped as “this is the Toy Show time”.

Continuing, he told listeners: “I had to go and get fitted up for a new nose, Toy Show wise… And that’s before I go and see Stuart and talk about songs, two songs and to talk about dances; two dances…"

“And to talk about getting involved in some very special things that we’re doing all around the show that involves filming a little bit here and a little bit there. It’s very special,” he revealed.

What we are doing with the Toy Show this year… last year there was a darkness in the air and yet you still had to make the colour shine through, this year the darkness isn’t as pronounced.

So if you’re wondering where it’s going to go, I think it is post-war fun and games and kind of crazy. So you can expect something pretty, pretty crazy.”

So sayeth Hobbidy this morning. One could argue that that particular choo choo started huffing and puffing its way from the platform about five minutes after the last one ended.

Expect a publicity driven deluge over the coming days.

He'd make ya sick claiming his salary is down to the market forces when RTE would have disappeared long ago if left up to the market. Mad how these interviewers haven't the balls to push him on any of this. Not on the salary, not on his poor interviews, not on the cronyism in his little D4 circle. I thought this was a Waterford Whispers article when I read it first. A FF senator is looking for a new bank holiday to celebrate the Toy Show! Could you imagine if this ludicrous idea went ahead, a tourist asking "oh what's the bank holiday for?" and finding it out it was for a toy show.

She should be embarrassed, especially as it was also the idea of a 10yr old boy who contacted Ryans radio show too.

And who had got 75 signatures at his school.

She obviously thought such an idea would gather support this week cos the nation loves the Toy Show, or at least we are told we do, but it seems to have backfired on her.

I also think this is a ludicrous idea. I heard Ryan Tubridy talking about it yesterday and today.

But regarding your comment "She should be embarrassed,..etc", to be fair to that politician (who I never heard until clicking the above link), she is not claiming that idea as her own. The second line of the article says "The Kildare Senator said she is delighted to lend her support to a petition which calls for a new bank holiday to coincide with the Late Late Toy Show."

By the way how has it backfired on her? I am not doubting you, I am just out of touch with the news.

Having not been allowed to travel to Ireland much over the last couple of years (once) the kids are actually quite excited about the Toy Show this year.

I hope we can watch it. I unfortunately have an awful television I cant install the RTE App on so have to juggle all kinds of things with mobile phones (one android and one apple) to get a stable internet connection and somehow cast it to the television.

Hope it works this year! I am not sure of any alternative ways to watch it? I think last year we ended up watching it on Twitch because nothing else worked for us! But open to suggestions!

Actually can you install the RTE App on playstation 4 somehow? :) That would work if so!

Don't think it's available on ps4 I just had a look there and no sign. I vaguely remember seeing it there at some point in the past but not so sure about now.

You don't need to install the app! Just type https://www.rte.ie/player/ and you should be able to watch it live on the website. Depending on your device you may be able to cast it to the television set.

That Rte player is a disaster. I also live over seas and have had disappointed kids several years when the bloody thing crashes about an hour into the show

I'll watch it because I watch the Toy Show every year, but, fck me, RTÉ have absolutely gone to town this year shoehorning ads and mentions of the Toy Show into absolutely everything. A bit much, approaching hysteria levels.
