VAT question

I have receipts for electrical sockets etc for a part of the farmyard that had not being connected to the mains. Can I re claim VAT on these items?

I also got CCTV (security) installed for the farmyard only. Can I reclaim VAT on these items?

Sorry written badly! you claim back the vat element and then the rest of cost is written off over 7 years ( 6 x15% 1 x10%) as capital expenditure not used in 1 year as an expense against income ( like fert or contractor )

What I am referring to is the old VAT 58 form Which is replaced by the ros system of reclaiming vat for the unregistered farmer.

Yes as miner said you ca reclaim the vat as an unregistered farmer and then the remainder of the amount spent will be written off against tax over a few years instead of in one year

Thanks for all the replies however my question is is VAT reclaimable on Electrical parts and installation of CCTV security, all for farmyard?

I have claimed in the past for water fittings, concrete yards and land reclamation, but the above is new to me.

Just read in journal that some items ( lighting, solar panels ) can have capital allowances of 100% in year of purchase. Safety items seem to be included, not sure about cameras but worth investigating.

Same happened us a few years ago, even though it’s bolted to brackets welded onto the crush similar to the way the head gate is mounted

It went in with a shed so claim is a few thousand they just wrote back to remove it. I guess I'll leave it off

U could write back for them to reconsider. It's a fixed item, I don't think some of these ppl who process claims know much about farming.send them pictures.

Stick a spot of weld or sealer too on the bolts, if vat people get particular, that its not quite a fixed item.

We put in cameras a few years ago and was able to reclaim the full Vat on them. Calving cameras and security cameras...got the Vat back on all of them. We extended the internet from the dwelling house down to the farmyard and got the Vat back on that aswell. The minimum amount of a reclaim is €125.If you were reclaiming on a shed you would have been well over the €125 .I would say that you were very unlucky to have been refused the vat on the crush gate.
