Hi. Does an over 25 year old living with parents automatically qualify for a JSA rate of €203?

If your referring to an increased rate when reaching 25, you are entitled to €203, however its not automatic in the sense you have to contact the department.

If under 25 and living at home, parents income is taken into consideration with regard to means testing, that part of the means testing criteria is removed once a person reaches 25.

This topic has been discussed on numerous occasions so just to be abundantly clear, do not assume the DEASP will automatically increase a person's rate based on reaching 25, claimant needs to contact the department and explain, the may be required to attend a one on one or submit ID and additional documentation, recent bank statement etc as means will be reasssessd. Any increase to weekly rate will be back dated but the sooner application made, the better.

Does back dated mean they actually pay the balance to someone who was claiming less than they should have been or who got nothing for a certain period of time? Thanx for d info

I can't honestly say 100% , you would think so but the oy way to be sure is to raise this when touching base with the department.

It's one of those strange ones we're you'd think it would kick in automatically but because means requires a reassessment due to removing parents income , means the department only reviews when claimants make contact. My gut feeling is it will be back dated to turning 25 but that's just a guess. Good luck
