F1 2021 Round 15 Turkish Grand Prix 8th-10th October

Back again in Turkey where last year provided a mad race with Lewis Hamilton confirming his 7th WDC driving his intermediate tyres to nearly slicks. Perez joined him in p2 that day with Vettel claiming his last podium for Ferrari pipping his team mate at the last corner. Lance Stroll took a surprising poll for that race which he could not convert due to poor team calls.

Weather forecast seems once again wet for both days potentially but hard to know this far out. Will Hamilton take an engine penalty? Who knows! Should be a good race!

Looking forward to this one. Always an eventful race each year. Turns 8 and 12 usually have something fun happening.

Red Bull are teasing a special livery for the weekend looks like a tribute to Hondas days of running in Japan flag colours. Remember this was supposed to be the Japanese Grand Prix.

    This too shall pass.

Awe so that's why they are doing it this weekend. I found it rather strange when I seen that and thought why are they not just doing it after the last race of the season, but maybe its better to do it before the last race anyway incase that never happens even do its very unlikely that it will not go ahead anyway.

Perhaps with the title likely being decided in Abu Dhabi and if max were to win redbull would like to have their usual livery on show?

Sainz will take a new PU this weekend also meaning he will start from from the back of the grid.

We will be seeing a lot more than that over the next few races.

A little bit of the livery Red Bull will use this weekend:

Full pics on their social media. It looks fab

I see Hamilton doesn’t expect to take a PU penalty this week, but that could change based on quali.

I hope it’s something they look at for next year. It’s an fine rule but if basically everyone needs to take an engine penalty at some stage then maybe 3 just isn’t enough!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,141 ✭✭✭✭klose

With a rumoured 23 race calender and 7 sprint races they will surely increase the allocation to 4 PUs for next season?

I was driving just outside Athens yesterday and passed a big Scuderia Ferrari branded lorry on the motorway. I thought that was odd until I remembered there's a Grand Prix in Turkey and looked up the calendar and saw it was on this weekend.

I thought this was cool anyway, not a lot happening in my world 😀

Looks like Hamilton is taking a 10 place penalty for a new ICE, so very much damage limitation. Starting 10th/11th you’d imagine he’d still be comfortably finishing in the podium spots

Unless there is a crash at the first corner and he is caught up in it.

The times here are already so much faster than last year.

They are in the 1min24s already.

Wow Boards, I was expecting uninformed comments like Verstappen and Bottas (twice) were sent to the back of the grid while the FIA (note that name) only gave Lewis 10 places the biased so and sos. It's all to do with what was replaced so well done everyone.

Getting anywhere near pole isn't a shoo in for him lately so we'll have to see what happens. Remember Max doesn't have to push for the win. Just finish ahead of Lewis and as long as it's not 9th and 10th then you're back in the lead.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,496 ✭✭✭McFly85

I think if he doesn’t finish quali in the top 3 then they’ll end up replacing everything and have him start from the back(or 19th unless Sainz out qualifies him).

Maybe they feel they won’t need to change anything else, or maybe they’re happy to spread the penalties to maximise points-10 place penalty here, maybe another one in red bull favoured Mexico, and then full pelt for the last 3 races.

Anyone know what the weather will be like there tomorrow? The wind is catching a lot of them out. A few spins because of it.

Any good bets for the weekend?

Nikita Mazeapin went for a Mazespin lol.

That Haas looks really horrible to drive in the dry so must be a nightmare in the wet.

Missed the first half of FP3, nice to see wet conditions with a little bit of grip, it's a rarity. Note the rest of the track is soaking with rivers running across it but the cars running around just on inters has dried out a nice racing line where they can push.

Nearly all the drivers now including Max and Hamilton have had a spin although I somehow managed to miss Hamiltons spin must have been the stream very unreliable today unfortunately.

Another instance of alfa with dodgy calls in the pit, sent out kimi in front of the haas of Schumacher as he was putting, fortunately no contact.

100% chance of rain for qualifying.

It is sure to mix things up.

Big queue to get out and set a time before the rain falls.

Tsunoda lost it there and then did well to find a gap back on, not that it will do him any good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,904 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

After all that talk, rain looks to have been some gentle spitting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,802 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Would the bookies pay out on that as rain?

Redbull believe that conditions will only improve from here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,956 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

Well….. they’re all on softs so I can’t imagine it can be classed as rain/wet can it?

Well done to Mick Schumacher. Can not have been easy getting that Haas into Q2. Very bad from Danial Ricciardo and Mclaren.

Quite a few people binning it there, Perez the latest.

Hard to take anyone seriously if they suggest young Schumacher isn't good enough for F1. Mazepin's not a particularly high benchmark but Schumacher's gone through him this season consistently in all conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,802 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Jenson Button has a very monotonous commentary style, not sure it suits F1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,802 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

LeClerc at risk and then he goes off, under pressure now.

Missed Q1 but I was surprised to see mick Schumacher in Q2 and Danny Ricciardo not there.

Agree, they should have him just as an analyst. Di resta has got so much better over the years, he's a good deputy when Brundle is off
