Why is there no robotic Garda or security forces yet?

Just watching last mights Claire Byrne show and it's a disgrace the violence hoping on especially against delivery drivers on bikes just trying to do there jobs. Why has a genius like Elon Musk or even some Irish person not invented robots to keep us all safe from these violent people when we are out and about.

Seemingly since Covid there is less Garda on the streets now than ever before.

Another option short term could maybe be to use some of the army force to keep our streets safe.

Been there Dublin 2002 Garda D.O.N.A.L. C.O.R.C.O.R.A.N sometimes mistakenly referred to RoboCop. He went rouge and beat the **** out of some crusties in Temple Bar. In doing so he became a gay icon for a while.

A retired member of the Army bomb disposal unit once told me that they named the Gardai 'Blue Robots'.

During 'the troubles' in the 1970's there were many calls out for hoax devices and the Army would head off with their kit, including their highly sophisticated green robots - used for remote device inspection. There were times when they got to the site and found that the 'blue robots' had beaten them to it - some Garda had already been up for a close inspection and had declared the device a hoax - sometimes even presenting it to them on arrival 👨‍🎓

Responsibility for the internal security of the State rests with the Department of Justice and An Garda Síochána. It is not the function of state agencies to fill purported gaps in legislation that are perceived to restrict the carrying out of their function. The function of An Garda Síochána is detailed in section 7 Garda Síochána Act 2005.

The Defence Forces outside a period of emergency do not have a statutory role in fulfilling this function. Nowhere in section 7 does it allow the Garda Síochána to abdicate its statutory function to another agency. The State is not in a period of emergency and the law is not a la carte. If AGS is not fit for purpose, then using the Defence Forces for the purpose of Martial Law is merely kicking the can down the road.

He is a PhD in mediation, dispute and conflict resolution, having completed a thesis on accountability in An Garda Síochána. He works as an expert advisor in and to AGS on such things and as a protection/liaison to sex workers in Dublin.

On that fateful day he was protecting his colleagues and though he admitted excessive force, a jury cleared him of assault and agreed that he was protecting colleagues.

The man is an absolute legend in my book.
