Any advice on a second hand strautmann 1250diet feeder. Would a 12.5 cubic strautmann be sufficient to feed 90 dry cows.

Looking at a mix with about 250kg of straw and 2500 kg of silage

Would I be better off with a second hand twin tub from abbey i.e. vf1500

Budget is between 15k and 18k

Any info or advice greatly appreciated.

Have you priced a new redrock 14 cube tub, was a touch over 22k here for a new one back in Oct 2019, secondhand tub mixers can be dodgy enough buys, a gearbox for any of the mainstream makes is 5k plus, if going secondhand the twin tub is the way to go especially if feeding out bales through it, single auger tubs aren't really designed for breaking up baled silage to quickly

Would there not be better value in a refurbed machine such as a Keenan?

    Can tubs chop beet?

They can but its hard on them, 14 cub here would chop 6 ton of beet loaded in, in 15 mins...

Will be mixing 50% bales so not too keen on a keenan

16 cubed refurbed was about 18k when we priced in the spring

    not bad i though

the newer keenans (made in the last 10 years) are very good for taking in a mixing bales

historiclly they would have been poor for bales

Twin is the way to go. Should get a really nice one for that budget, with little wear on the augers and walls. Good peace of mind with the gearboxes too.

Twin tubs that size aren't as high as singles making them easier to fill without a telescopic and nicer to reverse.
