Looking for firmware for Sharp smart TV

Hi, I've spent the last hour trawling the internet and sharp's various support sites without any joy.

The telly is a Sharp 40" smart TV bought in Tesco at Christmas, Receipt and documentation long gone and local TV repairman doesn't do Sharp so up to me to either fix or else bin it.

It is hung on the bootup screen - large red SHARP logo on powerup and stays like that. I've tried all the button press/hold powerup/powerdown advice on the internet for factory resets but no good.

It seems that a firmware upgrade via USB is a likely and easy fix. If only I could locate the firmware for this model anywhere. I've been all round the product support and download sections of the Sharp site and it doesn't seem to exist.

The model is a 40BG2I . Neither the model or Serial number appear on a search of the sharp download database. TV is still available to buy new.

Has anyone else come across / solved this issue? I've messaged Sharp customer support but not holding my breath.

    Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

    Itineo.

I think Sharp are made by a company called UMC, maybe to search for UMC and your model number may give some result.

Thanks, I had a look there just now, The UMC site is fairly basic but they have an enquiry form that I filled out. Still no word from Sharp who I contacted yesterday.

I'm reading some comments online about people needing to call the sharp helpline to get a dropbox link to the files - seems mad.

    Update:

UMC got back to me within an hour and had the software sent to me shortly after. All sorted and working again. I'd never have found them but for posting here.

I've said it before - this is an excellent forum.

    Thanks decor58 😀

As it happened in the end, the TV died again. I got a cheap (!) secondhand mother board from the UK and that sorted the problem for good. Cheap means £13 from a damaged TV and about sixty Euro by the time it arrived at my door but happy to have it anyway. Thanks again for all your advice and help.

The motherboard route is definitely worth considering for some TVs. Had a local lightening strike about 5 years ago that impacted 3 TVs here. I looked at house insurance but with excess on policy and loss of "no claims bonus" it was not worth considering. I purchased 3 motherboards like the one above and all 3 TVs are still working perfectly now 5 years later. I think I had all DIY repaired for 200ish in total.
