Just bought an older house. Bout 40 years. It has the textured ceiling. Not the wood chip one. Just wondering what is the best way to paint this?

Also have gaps in the skirting boards how they meet the wall. Best way to get them back in or just fill them in. having a feeling electric wires are behind them. Seems to be extra sockets on the skirting.

Are you trying to remove the textured paint or looking to what to use to paint over it?

Removing it is going to be a royal pain in the butt, if it was me, I'd live with it and paint it. Depending on how stippled it is I'd go with a roller if only speckled but if rough I's use a 4in brush with long bristles.

As for the skirting, again depends on how bad it is but you could get chalk filler and use that if painting the boards, if it's raw timber and you're only varnishing it then your options are limited.

If you suspect there's wiring behind the skirting then avoid using nails or screws.

Replaster your ceilings. Re board if money is no object. No ifs, buts or maybes. Horrible finish that will always look tatty.
